5720 microphone

I may be having some issues with sound in general on my new 5720. I think someone already mentioned some cracks and pops when you plug the headphones in, well it more noticable when i turn it up loud.
My microphone is awfuly quiet, i've tried both the integrated one and i've tried pluging in an external one. The external one is better but its still awfuly quiet. I've turned the mic recording volume to the max in the settings but i can still barely make out the sound.

Go to windows "Control Panel" Select the "Sounds and Audio Devices". Click on "Voice" tab. Click on the Volume under "Voice Recording" section. This launches a new window. In that window from the menu "Options" check the advanced controls. Now you should see an advanced button, click on this and select the microphone boost option.

same problem

im having the same problem, my microphone is quiet.
its turned up and windows boost is one. i've tried muting and unmuting it, and disabling infrared. also, i've uninstalled my realtek audio driver and reinstalled it. i've tried an external one. the mic is too quiet to use without adding additional gain. so i cant use it for voice chat during Day of Defeat =(

well, i know mine works great with Ventrilo. Check in the recording program (chat oir whatever) to see if there is a place to adjust the audio gain. Otherwise Super has covered the most common way. Also check in the Realtek control panel. I think the mic gain there is linked to the MS panel but who knows....

i solved mine

I had the quiet mic problem. i had uninstalled and reinstalled a thousand times and played with codec and drivers. no luck.
then one day i installed teamspeak (goteamspeak.com.) teamspeak put some new codecs on my machine, and the mic worked! but not just in teamspeak, it worked in all apps!

hey all!

How do you just plain disable or remove (not physically) the built in 5720 mic. I hate that when i am typing and my hand goes over the mic i get feedback in my speakers. any help is appreciated.

mute it in the audio control panel

goto device manager and disable it

uninstall the drivers

take a safety pin and stick it in the mic hole
