I own an Area 51 that is about 2 years old (2.2 GHz, 400MHz bus, Radeon 8500 - antique by today's standards). The only thing wrong with it was they forgot to stick the little alien head on the case - fed exed it the next day. I was a huge fan of Alienware when I bought my machine. But in the last two years, AW has gotten so big that they are experiencing growning pains. This was bound to happen as soon as they decided to reach the mainstream computer user - they are no longer just an esoteric gaming company (they are selling at Best Buy for Pete's sake!). From a business standpoint, this is the perfect move. But from a customer satisfaction standpoint, it causes problems. It is easy to please each customer when you have extremely knowledgeable tech/customer service people answering the phone. It is difficult to maintain that knowledge level when you have to hire hundreds of new people.
While I own an AW, I bought a Sager notebook last week precisely because of the problems I see with Alienware. I just cannot see waiting weeks and weeks to get one of their machines.
