I don't like the LEDs. Anyway, the enclosure was cheap at the time (~ 1 year ago).

And this is the 3.5" for the HD. Very good, doesn't have a fan, but doesn't get hot. I guess that happens cecause it's made of aluminum, as I see that the enclosure function like a huge heatsink.

Never ever had a problem with any of them.

I love the Vantec. I have two and it works flawlessly.

Don't flame me if this is a noob question but can you make a SATA harddrive into an external harddrive?

If I were you I would just get a straight external HDD (I got a 200 GB Western Digital for $100)

They're about the same price, mine hasn't had any overheating issues or anything like that (to tell the truth I hadn't even thought about it)

I believe the only thing you need is an enclosure that will work, on the inside, with SATA. On external, you choose what connection you want.

As an example, this one below is SATA (internal) to USB 2.0/eSATA (external).

ps.: not a noob question, maybe a lazy one (didn't search)...

A little side tracking on the topic, but does anybody know of an enclosure that'll handle the larger drives?

I'm trying to find one that'll handle a 400 GB HDD, but most seems to max out at around 250 GB or 300 GB.

i just bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817186206

i tried it on an 8gb maxtor hdd, worked great, a 120gb samsung hdd, also worked great. however, the drive that i actually planned on using with it, a 120gb WD, wont even spin up. i still recommend it cause i think its the harddrives fault and not the enclosure. however, it is pretty noisy.

i think im probably just going to switch out the samsung and WD drives and use the samsung in the enclousre if i cant get the WD to work.
