Quake 4 graphics on 9300 w/Nvidia 6800

I downloaded the demo of Quake 4 to try out the game and can't help but notice the soft looking graphics of Q4. Is this the way the game is supposed to look?

Not sure what you mean by soft graphics - it looks just like Doom 3 (as it is built on that engine).

Does it look different than Doom 3 did to you, or the same? This should help in explaining what "soft graphics" are.

Also, what res you playing at? Did you change any other video options from default?

What res are you running the game at?

Q4 defaullts to 640x480, no matter what kind of computer you have. Just up the resolution to something like 1600x1200 (if you have the WUXGA screen). The D3 engine doesn't support widescreen resolutions, but it seems that Q4 has some fake 16:9 setting, doesn't really matter because the 9300 screens are 16:10 aspect ratio.

Actually you can use custom resolutions with Quake 4, this works for Doom 3 as well i believe.

open Quake 4\q4base\Quake4Config.cfg in a text editor, find these lines and change them to your desired resolution.

seta r_customHeight "1200"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

Correct. It's all here:

I played Quake 4 at 16:10 1600x1200. Nothing "fake" about either setting. :-)

Information is power. (And better looking games!)

It was smartypants

Im running it at 1200x1024, high quality graphics, 2x AA. Another way to describe soft looking graphics would be it looks like theres a extremely thin film of Vasaline on the screen. It doesn't look sharp/clear as most of my first person shooters.

I haven't played Doom 3 on my laptop.

I'll try the custom resolutions to see if theres a difference.
