i have the computer on and i would be playin games or what not and then it restarts on its own.

i recently changed my case to a better lookin one and the power supply was upgraded to 500W from a 350W. now i think it might b because of the supply being such a big upgrade, but im not sure. Help me someone

Does it CTD then reboot, Is it a Kernal Panick, and/or does it completely power down?

Disable the restart automatically on error feature in Windows XP, with this disabled when the computer gives an error instead of restarting this will bring up a blue screen of death.

Write down the technical data and post it here. Also, posting your computer's specs will be helpful.

Also check for clogged cooling. Dust Bunnies in a heat sink can cause this.

I had a processor go bad with similar symptoms.

You need to post the specs of your machine if you expect anyone to be able to help you. Motherboard, graphics card, CPU, memory, PSU, etc. The more we know the better we can help.

Could you include any other of your sytem specs, and specificly what make/model is the PSU you jsut purchased?

My guess would be a memory problem. A spontaneous reboot is usually caused by a tripple fault. The first fault goes to an error handler. If the error handler throws an exception, you get a double fault. If the double fault handler throws an exception, the CPU gives up and resets.

The only reason for the CPU to tripple fault is memory corruption, and the kernel is protected well enough that these days only bad memory or a bad CPU can cause that kind of corruption.

also say its a ram thing. at one point i had a bad stick of ram and it woudl send my lappy into a constant loop of rebooting while trying to game, pulled taht stick out, replaced it with a good one and all the problems went away

What game are you playing? 384MB... are you using XP?

My desktop was doing this too for a while. Finally got tired of cleaning it out with compressed air, checking connections, ram, etc. so I finally pulled the MB and found out that my CMOS chip was fragged. Saw a small burn mark in it so I replaced the MB and upgraded the chip. Now It works a lot better and so far, no other problems. I hope the problem with yours is not the same, but this was the only way I could fix the problem.

Did your computer come with Jesus inside? There should be a sticker on the front with your Jesus-issued product key.

Did you look inside? Had a customer have something like this once and a nest of roaches were shorting out the powersupply.

i had the same problem with mine for a while did you install any new software on to the system. i found out the it was my 3rd party firewall that was causing mine to reboot

start with the overheating first.

video card-check fan and air flow

memory- check for obstructions and proper seating

recheck all power connections to the motherboard and the componets.

check to confirm that you are not overclocking the cpu.

run the rig with ONE stick of ram. if the system runs then take that stick out and use another one. repeat until all 3 sticks are tested. if system crashes then the ram has gone bad. use white out to mark the tested ram stick.

uninstall you graphics drivers and reinstall them.
