8880 Battery light flashing - Page 2

Really, decreases it? It's what I've always done with any new batteries in phones, laptops, video cameras etc, this is not good news! I'm just about to read your 'Tips for making Li-Ion batteries last longer', thanks. I guess I was brought up on Nicads!

What's your opinon of Li-Polymer, increased capacity or just inflated price?

Beakmyn, I absolutely agree with you, batteries like anything else should be expected to have a reasonable lifespan, I'm sure there is something in Consumer Law that protects the consumer against such exclusions in warranties, but then I'm in Rip-off Britain where the corporate giants interpret the law in any way that suits them, and they get away with it! Seems like Goliath is winning here right now, things may be a little different in the US.

I've got a Packard Bell EasyNote laptop and the battery is still going strong after 8 years as well.

I guess I'll have more info next week when the engineers have tested it.

Li-ions are lighter and have no memory problems, but are not as durable as nicads IMO. Naturally, battery companies are going to push this more consumable product, it's good business. Bastards. My last nicad laptop battery lasted 3-1/2 years, with proper maintenence. I don't expect to get that from my li-ion. Not sure about environmental concerns, Li-ion vs nicad.

Yes, it really decreases their life. The chemical properties are much different from NiCads and other battery technologies.

I learned the hard way too. After turning a bunch of electronics with non replaceable batteries into disposable devices last year I started researching them and it was only then I learned I was caring for all them wrong.

Li-Poly batteries even have shorter lifespans but the manufacturers love them because they can custom mold them into very thin size or special unique shapes to fit them into tighter spaces.

Did they squeeze a nuclear power source in your laptop or what.
I am lucky to get 1.5hrs on battery. Mind you I have set the BIOS to run the CPU at full speed even on batteries. What is yours set to.

As to your KB/EC firmware it could well be the right version although it seems rather high relative to mine but maybe they changed a lot of things (power consumption maybe???).

Given your squeaking and groaning noises it does not sound a happy box. Mine makes none of those noises (and if you read the bit about making the internal fan quiet) with the exception of the odd low level ticky tick when the disk is active (even that I can only hear if the fans are off on both laptops).

You are right about the internet tho. It has turned into a wonderful resource.
Well he said it was an 8880 which i assume is 8880 series since it is about 9 months old... which would be like an 8886/8887 and no hyperthreading... so that could explain about the battery length... would need exact model number to know what firmware is latest...
