External Monitor problems?

Not really sure how to ask this.. but, how come when I plug my external monitor into the back of my notebook, it does not look the same as it did when I had my monitor hooked up to the back of my desktop PC. I have a NEC 19 inch lcd monitor and it just does not look as sharp as it has when its hooked up to my desktop as opposed to when its hooked up to my notebook. Any clue why? I figured things would look exactly the same resolution wise and all??

Check the refresh rate. It may have defaulted to 60Hz.

Check the rest of your settings as well. Go into the ATI dialog box and to multiple monitors setup. You have to set both monitors for what's best for each.
