I would like to thank everyone on this board it has been great help. I have been researching a laptop upgrade for awhile so I could start playing games. The biggest thing for me was finding a unit that I could upgrade the video card. Of course the XPS is an option but in my opinion a little pricy. When I found the thread on updating a 9300 to work with a 6800U or 7800 video cards that was all she wrote
I purchased a 9300 and paid 1100 shipped, bought a 9 cell battery, 130w brick, and 6800 Ultra from Howdogg74 (Thanks Man!) I had to move some stuff over from my Latitude D610 2ghz proc, 2gb mem, 1450 Wireless (Can't stand the Intel cards). Once I got that stuff in I lapped the processor and 6800U heatsinks and applied a thin layer of AS5. I couldn't lap the bridge because the heatsink was elevated and Dell used a thermal pad to bridge the gap. This is the same stuff that was on the 6800U memory chips. Once I got it together I flashed the bios with the hacked 9300 and then updated to the latest A05. I was able to initially clock my 6800U to 525x1200 and I plaid several hours of Mafia and it never went over 53 degrees. I tried a program that put my card under load and it got up to 85degrees but there were no artifacts, lockups or hangs. I am happy with 525 but I may try 1300 on the memory for grins.
I have a 1.8 SL7EN on the way to try and get 2.4. Decided to take a shot since I got it so cheap 130. People are getting 140-150 for them on ebay so hopefully I break even if the pin mod does not work.
Thanks again guys
