In deep $h!t - need help fast - laptop dead?!?!

I have an IBM X31 w/ docking station. I pushed the blue button on front of the docking station to undock it, waited for it to do its thing, then when I pulled the latch to pop out the laptop, the laptop shut off! Now it won't come back on!?!?! I am in the middle of some huge and time-sensitive work that is all on this laptop.

Anybody know what might be the problem?

Sounds like something got shorted when you pulled out... not necessarily fatal though.
Have you tried taking out the battery and plugging it into the AC?
Basically try taking away all the power.
If that doesn't work, hit the reset button on the bottom of you notebook [if it has one].

Good Luck!

??? Don't know, I guess try removing the battry then putting it back in. Then connect it drectly to power (without the docking station) and try to turn it back on. I have no idea what would cause this sort of behavior, you should call IBM if things are this critical, unless someone on here has had this isue you might just be dealing with a lot of potentially fruitless best suggestions (like mine) as opposed to someone who might actually know a sure fix.

I read something about a fellow that had some sort of problem with a Dell machine that a tech had them remove all the potential power (batt, PSU) and then hold down the power button for like 15 sec, I don't know what this did but I remember that it did fix that feelow's issue. Perhaps IBM can tell you the secret reset or whatever.

Good luck, sorry I couldn't help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both and nothing....

Also tried troubleshooting w/ the methods on the IBM website - they had me take everything out and put it back in. Not sure what they would do but...? Still not powering on, and the light doesn't come on when I plug it in to ac adapter.

Maybe internal power supply got fried? Know where to get a replacement fast?

Call IBM. Their support is stellar. This is why people buy IBM, when something goes wrong they are reasonably sure that they will be taken care of via customer support.

You clearly have access to another computer, if the work is that important take the hard drive out of the laptop, get an enclosure for it and plug it into the other computer and get your work off there.

Tried phoning IBM tech support?

I think I know what happened.... I had an external harddrive plugged in USB. Although it officially was safely removed, I bet it f'd things up because the external harddrive has its own power supply. So it must've shocked the crap out of the lappy.

Great idea about the laptop HD enclosure though. It'll be a great temporary fix.
