That's a good price IMO for that 80gb 7.2k SATA drive, I paid the same amount for my 100gb 5.4k Toshiba (PATA)

.

As for some kind of PATA to SATA adapter, Dell doesn't have any apparently as they didn't yesterday either, I called again today and spoke to a knowledgeable American this time. Also checked many local computer shops online and around Chicago, no dice.

Are all of these 9300s brand new or something? I NEVER knew they switched to SATA.. when did it happen? Or are they still mixing it up depending on the hard drive.. I don't see SATA options on the site..

Penguin, yes they are brand new. I had one that was less then two weeks older and it was PATA, then this new one came and it was SATA. Definitely something brand new.

Yeah, thanks for the clarification. Yeah so like, for as long as I could remember it had been PATA...

First time poster on this forum, as I ordered my 9300 last week (Nov 30), and it is apparently in shipping to my door as we speak.

So regarding the PATA vs SATA debate, should I be getting a SATA drive? I ordered an 80 gig 7200 drive and on my quote it is listed as 80 gig Ultra ATA drive.

Newer 9300s have SATA drives.

I'm half tempted to spit out that this may prove to the effect that the newer 9300's are using the same internal hardware as the XPS and the A05 bios still hold true as being same/similar. If SATA is only in the XPS laptop, then why is it all these new 9300's have them?!?! *shrug* Maybe I'm letting too much optimism get to me.
