On paper, this laptop is just like any other 14" laptop being offered by HP, Toshiba, or Compaq. The processor is a nice 1.73 Ghz, but everyone is offering 2.0ghz now. 512mb is adequate, but everyone else is moving to 1GB. The 100gb hard drive is a respectable 5400rpm and S-ATA, but nothing new to Toshiba's line. The video card is just a regular Intel Graphics 915.
This laptop just "blends in" when you compare it to other laptops. I guess the only thing that sets it apart is a slightly better screen than HP, Gateway, or Compaq, and also it's built-in webcam. There aren't too many 14" laptops with a built in webcam, even through Asus. The only other webcam latops i've seen are in the 12" and 15.4" sizes.
The Sony laptop is, on average, about a hundred dollars more than the competition with similar or better specs; even when retail stores have rebates. I seriously would like to get the Sony FJ if i get another 14" laptop....but Sony's accessories are also more expensive (i.e. extra batteries).
I dunno...i'm still thinking this one over. There aren't too many reviews on the FJ series. My guess is the 14" line isn't too popular yet when compared to 15.4" laptops. And, with Sony releasing theirs later in the year than most other companies....maybe the word hasn't spread yet about the Sony line.
If the S series came with a built in webcam....then that would be a no-brainer purchase. Just a "no-mo-money" purchase.
