Apple Help

Thread Starter
I have always been a windows pc user. I am shopping for a notebook and have thought about maybe buying a powerbook. Can I use the same ram in windows pcs in the powerbook? How about hd, can I get any aftermarket hd?

Is alot of software compatable with apples OS?

Is switching to apple worth it? I like the 15 inch powerbook because it comes with the 128 mb 9700 video card and is very sleek.

RAM is compatible as long as it's the right type...new PowerBooks use DDR2 RAM. Any notebook drive would fit, but it's a real PITA to replace the drive in a PB. You can find guides at www.pbfixit.com

No software made for Windows will run on a Mac, however, many titles you are familiar with for Windows also have Mac versions. You just have to either buy the Mac versions or spend time trying to find a place to download them.

To me switching was worth it, but to other people it's not. It's just something you have to figure out for yourself.

I would recomend buying one with at least 40+ GB under its belt as the mac os is signifigantly bigger than XP

As far as software goes it depends on what you are looking to do with your mac

its worth it if your willing to give it a try.

My system folder is 1.5 gigs, which is approximately the same size as Windows.

why does mine always end up being 4 gigs+ when im done with a fresh install?

Sounds like you install all the languages and printer drivers and stuff. I always do a custom install

that and if u have system restore disks and u don't do a custom install the entirety of iLife and the games will be installed. i opt out of garageband, nanosaur, etc, which saves me a 1GB+.

iLife and everything else is on the second disk; installing the OS doesn't even ask about installing iLife and stuff.

Maybe some were like that, but I know mine weren't.
