UPDATE 1/27/06
I hope you all got in while it lasted. It appears that the low price is gone, and both part numbers are now at $599. Good Luck! Time to let this thread die

Original Thread
I called Dell USA spare parts 1-800-372-3355
Hit 5 - purchase parts
hit 3 for personal system (2 for business)
hit 2 - other replacement parts

I told them I owned an XPS2, needed to order a replacment part, that I didn't have my service tag handy, and gave her part number HF594

The best thing to do is say you don't have a service tag since the machine is at work/home. If they can't find one in your account, just say you have several email accounts with dell, or it might be under a spouses name. You can say you got the part # from a Dell internet forum.

She did find my account online, and I had already registered a xps2 service tag I had found in a post on the web. I'm not sure if she saw this or this changed her attitude.

She offered to sell me more memory, and asked what was wrong with my old card, I told her it was 'burned up'

Price was $259.68 + $16 for next day shipping + tax

I was not allowed to use any coupons.

Sales rep was Lina at x7240142

Warranty Longer of 90 Days or Remainder of System Warranty/ Svc Contract. 21 Day Return. Parts may be Reconditioned - Are the terms on the order detail

The card arrived in a few days, in a nice box. I can't tell if it was used. It is a poor overclocker though. 450/1100 with standard ram timings after AS5.

UPDATE 1/12/06 - Glad that this thread has helped a bunch of people. Some people have had success with an alternate part # CG809

wow, your so lucky. I called Dell canada and i can get one for 349$CAD, not bad. When the woman asked me for my service tag i told her i didn't have one i got the laptop off of ebay. And she said "well its under the laptop" so i had no choice but to give it to her, she didn't seem to care or notice that i had an i9300, not to mention one that is from dell US. 349$is good but i'd really like to know how come their selling it for 249$US thats just crazy.

Wont they expect you to send back the damaged card?
No because he bought this card. It isn't a repair so no need to return the other card. Likely that he'll sell it on eBay or the forums .. something like that.
I just called and got one as well although i DO have an XPS 2 . It was $248.32 + tax and next day shipping. There is a 90 day warranty on them according to the lady i talked to and they are ither new or refurbished from systems that have been sent back. Most likely if they are ones that have been sent back they are just out of brand new machines people decided not to keep. Hopefully i'll get a new one though .

yeah I was thinking conservatively that I should be able to geat ATLEAST $150, so at most this card should only cost a bit over $100 to upgrade, i would say odds are i can get more like $200-250
post #16 of 1243
What i'm wondering is how the warranty on the card will work if you stick it in a 9300 cause their going to ask for your XPS service tag when you call. I guess you'll just have a 90 day warranty.

Hey Rallycobra, thanks a ton for this post buddy. I just ordered one. I never thought I would ever upgrade to a 7800 from a 6800. I am a best bang for buck type of guy and always thought upgrading from a 6800 to 7800 would not be best bang for buck, but here I am. This is too good to pass up. By the way, I gave the sale rep my I9300 Service Tag. He verified that I have a I9300 and asked me what's wrong with my current video card. I told him that nothing's wrong with it, I just want to upgrade. He said "OK, fine". Yes that was his quote. I expected him to bring up that the I9300 is not compatible with this card etc.., but never once did he mention any of that. He then asked me if I'm a gamer and what types of game I play and stuff. Pretty cool guy. I have faith in Dell again. Rock on!

Now off to find me a 130 Watt PS and 9 Cell battery, damn that's gonna set me another $150 or so back.

Nice to hear meltdown! Now start overclocking that thing when you get it, I'm over 7600 3dmark05 and trying for more right now. Check my other thread for overclocking/ overvolting tips.

I thought about ordering a dozen and ebaying them, but what fun would that be? If it wasn't for these forums, I wouldn't have the laptop, so I'm happy to give something back.

You rock man!!!!

For those of you who are nervous about doing this don't be it was real easy. I called in and they asked for my Service Tag (I went on ebay and found one in an auction). She then told me that their was a different name under the computer and I told her I bought it on ebay and she was like ok and continued. They asked me next what I needed and I gave them the part number HF594 and she confirmed it was a 7800 Go she also said it could be refurbished and if it is it will say so on the box. She then asked what is wrong with my machine and I told her I was stupid and overclocked my card and burned it up and my machine is currently down. She was like ok and she processed my order 248 + 21 Tax + 8 Shipping.

She had 2 in stock when I called.
