its not XPS service tags from what I can see its endusers that they are cracking down on. (shrug) all you gotta tell the person on the phone is that you are calling from the office and that Lappy is at home to get around the service tag

I did that all four times with no avail. Would I be better off telling them that my current one won't work and its outta warranty, or that I'm upgrading?

I got a service tag off of one of those little known aution sites, so I've got that now anyway...

I tried calling about 4 times. I've gotten all kinds of different excuses. I've had multiple XPS tags, I used my own tag. I've tried being honest, I've tried being shady. I've tried alot of things. I've been offered the $599 pack, I've been told the item is OOS. I've been offered the 6800 Go at $230.. but didn't bite!

I'll try calling again in afew days if my next plan fails.

It's clear that the low price is not intended for the casual consumer (you and I). This deal isn't dead, but it IS on life support.

Maybe everyone should chill for a week or so and THEN start calling back once Dell gets a stock and has seen their spare parts revenue drop .

Well don't feel too bad, my 7800 upgrade set me back $413 when all said and done. But it's the best upgrade for me ever.

$278 7800 from Dell
$63 power brick from Dell
$72 battery from ebay
------------
$413

Not bad considering the fact that now its tough to be able to get the card alone for $400. I got one guy to quote me $392 on the refurb, but that's as low as I've gotten...

just wondering, can you get by with the 7800 gtx and the 130w power brick alone? i mean, u can still run on AC power AND 6-cell battery as long as u dont go mobile without the AC, right?

It'll work with the 130w alone, but take out the battery wen flashing, and you won't be able to run on the 6 cell, ever.

err, I had to purchase the 130 brick which I thought I had, cpu noob here. so that 130 brick ran me another 50 bucks from dell, im thinking about selling the 256 6800 that came with it but i still have a warranty.....for another year if I need to use it ya know? expensive. but I must say the laptop itself with those specs I posted was FREE from Dell, as a replacement for my 8600
