How I ordered a 7800gtx go for $259.68 - Page 7

First bought my 7800 GTX from Dell.com. Was 599$ -15% rebate and a 2-$ stackable coupon. That was before I checked back on this GODLY forum! I sent it back (had to pay 8$ for shipping) getting my money back, and ordered a new one from Tracy at Dell Spare Parts division for 248$

Dont know why anyone would ever by a M170 when u can get a 9300 with M170 parts for one third of the price

Thanks for all the help from the forum!

Opened up my 9300 and it has the identical XPS northbridge heatsink on it so I dont have to get my replacement.. now I just have to wait to get the cehap O card and the powerbrick and I'll have the 9300/M170 hybrid as well!!

No you're not. I said the same thing too about upgrading to the 7800. But that was if its a full $400-$500. Heck this is frickin $250! Like someone said, a desktop 7800 GT costs more then that!

yup, the 7800gtx starts at 450 dollars on newegg

Well, I'm not too sure if I want to go ahead and blow my 80% of my checkings account (I am a poor poor college student ) on this, even though this is an excellent deal. I'll probably end up being the only guy who hasnt gotten an upgrade on this forum.

Do it and sell the 6800 Go? Get like $100 for it?
Sigh. Okay fine, I'll do it. I hate you guys :P
post #127 of 1243
I'm a student too, but I do have a job at college.
Frankly... I really doubt if you'd be able to make $100's outta yr go6800.
The ultras go for a bit more now.

But hey...it sure does beat paying $500 for the most powerful laptop video card.

Yeah definitely up to you.. might be fun to mess with your 9300 though.. make sure you research installation first to make sure you can handle it (depends on if you are hands on or not).

If I get a 7800 card for my I9300, will it void all warranty on the machine? Where does it categorically say you will void teh warrnty if you upgrade the card? Is there a link? I have a 2 month old pc and am a bit reluctant to upgrade if i lose my 3 year warranty. Can Dell tell if I have chnaged the card? I guess if you have to upgrade to the hacked XPS bios then I guess its going to be obvious that Ive bastardized it.

Seems to me its only worth getting the card if your warranty is up, hmmmmmmmmm

They check for compatibility on the phone so say it is for a friend... it doesn't void the XPS Gen 2 warranty. Not sure about 9300 though
post #131 of 1243
well...If you do need to send the computer back. you could reflash it back to the 9300 bios, swap out the 7800 and ship it out.
But yea...there will be NO warranty coverage of the 7800 other than the default 21day + 90 day period

Yes there will be.. if it's installed in a system that has an existing warranty.

But thats only if its installed on a compatible system WITH existing warranty. I maybe wrong, but this makes more sense.

I have a 3 year warranty and haven't gotten my I9300 or my 7800 gtx yet. I figure when I get them, I'll only AS5 the gpu on the 7800 gtx. I'll keep the stock x300 ati 64 meg card. That way, if something happens within the 3 years, I can just replace the x300 and reflash back to the 9300 bios. I.e. say 2 and a half years from now I accidentally spill coffee on it. I might have coincidentally backed up my hard drive and reinstalled the old x300 card, with everything, including the cpu, having the original thermal paste on it. Dell just might have to give me a new model, which wouldn't be a 9300 and I could probably use the dell spare parts line to get whatever wamodine card is out then. But I'd never do anything like that. Just a passing thought.

Any of you kind Americans wanna lend a hand to us poor Aussies in getting a few of these 7800go's at these crazy prices? We'll be more then happy to pay for the expensive shipping!!!
Canula, I posted the terms by which I would help you in your GroupBuy thread. I ordered one of these TODAY, and it was shipped TODAY! If you care to discuss actual figures this forum is not the place. Please contact me thru PM and I'll send you my AIM name and we can talk thru there. (there's a big sticky that says no selling in this area)

Also, there is not limited quantities. I already mentioned to the rep I spoke with that I would probably need a couple more soon and she told me that the inventory count was around 200 of these units. I would care to guess that these cards are the ones that people tried messing with and failed. Or they didn't overclock well. But who cares about overclocking if you have the best mobile video card available? Unless you're a 3DMark point-wh*r#!!!
yup....mine got shipped today aswell !!!
woohooo !!

So is this just going to be the standing price to upgrade to this card now from spare parts or is there a chance this could go away? I mean this seems stupid low, outstanding deal. Do spare parts fluctuate in price or are they just what they are?

The 7800 GTX won't fit on that motherboard... the x300 has a different motherboard than the 6800... hopefully I am wrong.

ummm....the X300 is a different kind of video card. and is not part of the motherboard.
He's not swaping the processor out of the the video card..hes talking about swapping the entire video card out. Which is entirely do-able.
