Video Cam for Semi-Pro?

SO I am looking at picking up a new digital video camera, and I am wondering what people's opinions are for a decent video camera for preferably under $1000 but I can also look at some around that area as well? This will be used both for my own personal use but also to get some video for me to do audio work with and possibly capture some designs I do for theater to be used in a portfolio, so obviously the better quality is important to me.

I've been very pleased with last years Panasonic PV-GS 120 which was a highly ranked cam like all the Panasonic 3CCD models. If I was in your price range I would seriously look at this years Panasonic PV-GS250 which offers a focus ring, built in flash and all sorts of other goodies. I have become a fan of Panasonic over other brands because of the wonderful crisp and colorful video they take. Below is a link which will give you quite a lot of great info. Read the reviews and see what you think.
