Help.. Fans Stuck On Full Blast

Strange thing happened. I've had my 9880 for 6 months now with never a peep of a problem. Today I was working with several programs open and getThermal open to monitor temps(which I always do). I've never changed any settings, I just monitor the temps and shut down getThermal. The only thing I did different today was that instead of shutting down getThermal, I minimized it which put the little getThermal icon down by my clock (cool I thought). Then the icon disapeared by itself and my fans went to full blast. I tried to open getThermal again, but i kept getting the InitiializeWinIo() failed error which usually happens when you already have it running and try to open it again. I opened task manager and getThermal was not listed as a running application, but it was in the running processes list. I clicked end process and it went away but my fans were still on full blast. I opened getThermal again and it seems to open fine but with the fans at full blast all the time. I got brave for the first time and clicked the set on feature and was able to slow down and control the fans via the sliders but whenever I click set off or close GetThermal, the fans go to full blast. Tried rebooting, shutting down.. etc.. but whenever the laptop starts the fans are at full blast.. can anyone help?

Thanks

SagerEd

Might check what the BIOS options are set to.

Can't seem too find where there are settings for fans. Any special place that one goes to to find bios settings?

I guessing you already know that Fn-F2 is a toggle that sets the fans on full blast or to letting the PC control them. I know this should reset at boot but maybe your keys are stuck? I would try hitting Fn-F2 a couple of times and see if anything happens.

Thanks for the replies. I dont think getThermal gets installed? it just seems to work out of the directory that I downloaded it to originally. there's no un-install option in the program, directory or add/remove in control panel. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Fn-F2 does not work on my 9880. Never did. I think I'm using an earlier version of the bios? or GetThermal? However, after using my laptop for a few days, it fixed itself for the time being. Don't know how. I just stopped using getThermal and at bootup yesterday, it just returned to normal operation. All fans seem to be working and firing up when needed. go figure. I have had this computer for 6 mos. Is it neccessary to update a bios?
