Acer TM4402WLMI Winx64 Graphics Problem

Hi ! I would like some help... anyone !

I purchased a Acer Travelmate 4402Wlmi from newegg almost a month ago and as soon as it arrived I installed Windows XP 64Bit . Everything was going fantastic till I started trying to install and play games. I am aware of compatability issues with Windows xp 32bit games in x64 but games that are confirmed to be working properly within windows x64 have a common problem when executed on my laptop. They run at a impressive framerate then after 5-8 minutes of gameplay everything suddenly turns into slow motion. It isn't the typical jumpy slow down / frame rate drop Because the game runs very fluidly its just very very slow. I have tried the latest Farcry Demo , Simpsons hit & run and the newest Farcry Demo but they all suffer fro mthis problem. The only game that didn't seem to have any problems was World of Warcraft and I have no idea why. I can't reconfirm this because my trail account expired.

I upgraded the RAM to 1GB and I have installed the latest batch of sound and ATI X700 video drivers from Acer's website and still no difference.

I really have no idea what it could be. Perhaps CPU throttling ?

Any help / comments will be much appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

Is it a legit copy of Windows 64bit? If so have you tried doing a Windows Update? Also, did you install on top of the existing operating system or did you format it clean?

Yes it is a retail installation and I did a clean format. Windows update was run when I first installed it and I just ran it now and there was nothing critical to install however under reccomended it said there was a .Net 2.0 update which I have just installed.

Not sure if that's your case but there was/is an issue with ATI drivers where at high texture quality and display resolutions settings in some games the internal video memory of card gets full and it starts accesing regular RAM extensively dropping frame rate to a crawl as a result. Try setting quality a bit lower and see where it gets you.

I did as you suggested DarthAcer.

I ran Simpsons Hit and Run at 640x480 and 16bit Textures.
It ran at almost too high a frame rate then the "slow-mo" effect kicked in.

Same thing with Psi-Ops.

i wish i could help you out here but since i'm dual booting between x64 and x32, and x32 is where i mainly install all my games, there nothing i could suggest in the mean time.

Do you have the AMD Processor Driver installed with the new Cool & Quiet feature? I tried using that and instead of slowing the CPU at idle I ran at a full 1600mHz at no load. Games that took 100% CPU slowed to 800mHz after a few minutes on and off. It was infuriating! I rolled back my Processor drivers in Device Manager and it resolved my issue (in a 32bit environment, mind you).
