2gigs?

does any one else have 2gigs or ram in their sentia? if so do you notice any problems with it like it not going fast but slower? i just recently took one of my gigs out and it runs better than it ever has. just wondering if any one else has 2g in a sentia.

Sometime I might try it, when I've got time...right now I've no time at all. *Shrug* It might, depending on how your computer is set up.

That's weird. It was zipping along before, but now it's blazing...roughly 30% faster, I'd say...
Any ideas as to the reasons for this?

wait so you tried it bugeater?
Yes. It was time for my monthly dusting, so I decided why not...noticed improvements, especially while working in Photoshop.
I've a few ideas as to reasons, but havn't done enough research as to anything concrete yet, anybody know what would cause this?

Yeah that's wierd. My sentia has the 2g ram and fastest processor that was available but I noticed it's glitching every now and again. Especially with opening office docs n photoshop. As in they are not opening blisteringly fast or anything. thought with these specs that the machine would gobble up multiple powerpoint, word and photoshop docs fairly fast. I keep it up to date running spyware and antivirus programmes, so it's been doin me nut in for a while. I have a feeling something is up with it but I'm not experienced enough to know what?! Is this a similar thing to what you were experiencing and any suggestions?

i had 512 in it when i got it. i found a good deal on brand new ram on ebay so i splurged and got 2 gigs. i noticed an upgrade but it was nothing i expected. i thought about it for a while and i took a gig out and like bugeater said it was arround 30 %faster than with 2 gigs.

but yeah just general sluggishness. nothing that should happen with 2 gigabytes in a laptop.

the only suggestion i have for you newbie2 would be to take one of them out. you will notice an improvement.

I've been reading up a bit, and it seems to me that it's possible the bios is just programmed so as to accept less than a certain amount of RAM more readily than more...much as my problems back when I was trying to get LINUX to work, it wouldn't support memory over about 900 Megs...would explain it. The test would be to see if other people with the Same motherboard have the same results.

Tanx

Thanks guys, now i wont spend money buying another gig.
I´ll invest that money on a miniwifi prob.

Okay, as far as I can tell it's a problem with the firmware. The test: <<Which unfourtunately I've no time for at the moment, if one of you blokes'd do it for me an' post the results, I'd be eternally grateful>> Run a benchmarking tool<<Such as 3dmark, whatever>> with both strips in, and then with one in. If it's not just an illusion of better performance we're seeing<<Which I doubt>> then the benchmark will show it.
As a second test, I'd like to see if you also recive better performance with one 512 than with two, but I've no 512 strips hanging around to find out with.
An' if it is verified by the benchmark, I've only this to say: Whisky Tango Foxtrot Alienware!
If nobody gets around to testing this, I may be able to in...perhaps a month or so, what'd be great is if the Mothership tested it out for us an' posted the results<<As yet I've not called them, Busy life>>. Or at least if one of the kindly AW folks'd let us know their ideas on the matter.

Well then, I'm only getting a BSOD when I put the other stick in<<Yes, it's seated properly>> so I won't be able to do this. <<I would call AW, but I've no time for all the getting it fixed an' all that right now, an' probably won't until after my deployment. *Shrug*>>
In any case, as soon as someone else can do that, it'd be great.
