yeah, i got it at bestbuy damn $24 too! :willy: its says on the packaging that its particularly for PC to PC connections. its its called a "crossover cable" ...im assuming its correct. I tired again to have the computers detect themselves but its still just hanging there. Ive also tired tons of different IP numbers, etc and settings but to no avail...

yeah, send that $24 cable back and make your own.

go to this site to check out how, as well as to get your pc's up and running.

or if you like color, go here:

also, make sure your firewalls are either down or are not blocking your LAN

I am trying to use the file transfer wizard on my new i630 and it says I need to put the wizard on the other computer also and gives me 3 usable options..use the winxp cd (yeah right as if they sent that)..and 2 others."i already have a cd or I already have my files together on the old one"..the one I want to select is make a copy of the wizard but that option is shaded and I can't select it....I tried to follow some of the above suggestions but got lost somewhere and felt like the wizard would be the best way to go....should I try to get dell to send the discs?? I didn't really think I would need them....is that the disc I need??
thanks,
bnells

check your i630, the wizard should already be installed hopefully and you wont need the cd's, in which case choose any option, it dosnt really matter. if you need the cd's try to find the thread recently posted about getting dell to send free ones

thanks petebert...the i630 does have the wizard but the instructions say I need a copy for the other computer...
