Free Books!

Here is a selection of books that have hit the public domain and are now available for download they are in .txt file fomat and you can download all of them for free. They are however quite old boks because it takes a while for the copyrights to run out. Have fun and happy reading. I have uploaded one I found in there I found quite interesting Tom Sawyer was there and can be freely distributed! i ahve also included the complete list of titles they have available in a .zip file.

linux distros

Thanks Braingoo!

I have had good luck with Morphix as far as hardware detection goes on my AW51m2.

Just make sure if you want to save anything from the linux side, have a small FAT32 partition available, cause linux generally will NOT write to NTFS partitions.

True! I have Parttion magic that does that for me very well I can make new partions and resize them on the fly without wiping out my entire hard drive.

My services Tweak!

Here are the services I have running and the ones I have disabled on my laptop every thing I use still works and it boots and shuts down extramly fast! everythign runs smooth as Butta! Try them out for your self and see if it does not help your speed! I have narrowed it down to 13 for me but the stylexp is not needed un less yuo run stylexp so it could be 12. I belive themes couls also be stoped But them you will not get special win xp style stuff just reg old plain windows stuff if that sort of thing matters to you. Potential of only 11 services that are vital! Black viper gets it down to 7 but if yuo have a network there are soem that you will need such as server for file sharing and a few others.

attachment is a zipped Excel spreadsheet.

Super Speed Tweaks!

I have had my notebook for almost 6 months now and I have finaly gotten it tweaked to where I like it as fast and as reliable as possible. This thing flies here is a list of what I have done recently.

Winpatrol
http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1
I use this tool alot keeps me informed about what my coputer is doing at ll times and even alters me when something is trying to jack my homepage. I don't keep it running bu ti do use it to stop other programs from starting up automaticaly and running in the backround.

Mozilla
http://www.mozilla.org/
I find this browser is alot faster and with a built in download monitor for reesuming downlaods and a popup blocker this program rocks. You can even get a more striped down version called firefox. Its great and its free!

Servies Tweaks
www.blackviper.com
I got rid of any and all services that where not extreamly vital! I used black vipers site as a starting point and disabled everything that was uncessesary you would not belive what you don't need! I made my own ist it is in a zipped excel spread sheet earlier in this thread. Download it review it tweak your own! I highly recomend it.

Aston Shell
http://www.astonshell.com
this replaces the default exploere.exe with a faster sleeker shell that is far more customizable and alot smaller explorer.exe is almost 16,000k aston is about 3,000k thats is a big diference on startup and shutdown. I start up in 30 to 40sec and shut down in 7 to 10 sec I have not officaly timed it yet but its quick! Im also making an alienware theme for it I will show you guys later when its done.

Omega Drivers
www.omegacorner.com
Love these driver run all my games great! They don't push preformance of the machine up much but they do help its stablility!

Kill Cftmon
I also ran a2r!ctfm.zip this little program killed my cftmon service that is a usless serviec that is very hard to get rid of! Helps improve dvd playback.

thought i'd contribute one that i find helpful. Its called spywareblaster. Works very well, from what I understand it doesnt actually run, and it doesnt remove spyware either, but it blocks spyware from being loaded to your computer. You dont have to do anything except enable the things that it will block(everything) which is like 2800 different types of spyware. After running ad aware and spybot, and getting roughly 5-6 on spybot and 11 or 12 on ad aware, weekly, i tried this program and now with spy bot, ive yet to pick one up, and ad aware is good for only one or two files/week. Works very well, and you dont even have to open the program except to look for updates, just works automatically.

Link: http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

thought id add a little problem ive seen on a friends computer wiht this program, he has excite email account and with all the spyware blocked, he couldnt log into his emal, guess that tells you somehting about excite email, but that was simply a (time consuming)matter of finding the file type and opt to not block it. Other than that no problems. Good luck with it.

I also have a question for braingoo, i tried that tweakui thing, but it doesnt run, just asks if i want to install to the control panel, i say yes but its not there. any ideas. That style xp thing is awesome! thanks. Dont know where id be without stumbling onto this forum a few months back.

I got tweak UI to work, but i had to download from a different site, just did a google search for tweak ui and found out that u need a special one for XP. The one straigt from microsoft didnt work either, but its fixed now, dont have time to mess with it tho, have final exams this week. Thanks again everyone.
