Clean install using dell provided OS DVD

I was trying to do a clean install with the dell DVD.
But, after the OS installed, it automatically started to install a bunch of applications.

How can I stop it from installing the applications?

You need the real OS disc not the dell recovery one or whatever they give.

Sounds like you have a system restore disc and not an actual XP OS install disc. The XP install will easily fit on a CD. A DVD is needed for all of the Dell bloatware.

Have you done a clean install/format of XP before? Did the procedure look similar?

Request that Dell send you an actual XP OS OEM disc. Use Mike 01Hawk's handy template:

Okay... what I got is the re-installation DVD (2.65 GB)... no software on it... OS only... did not ask me for serial key....

But, it does have a script that attempts to reconfigure dell installed bloatware. That is, if you use the disc for a re-install instead of a fresh install, it will reconfigure the previously installed software.

Since I did a fresh install, the script failed for the most part since no software was installed (it took 30 min to run though ).

It also copied over over 1.5GB of sample windows MCE sample media file though (4 recorded movies, 10 music albums, 5 music videos, and a bunch of picture gallery files).

My worry is that the script although it failed for the most part could have broken other things. So, I would rather not have it run at all.
I too have two entries for MCE in the boot loader for partition 1 and 2 (easy fix). I guess dell did that because of the hidden partitions the laptop ships with.

Anyway, how do I get rid of the script?
I am thinking I will have to recreate the CD the way we slip stream service packs for XP.

How is the CD you guys received?
Is it MCE SP2? (Mine is)

I might need to get a copy of your CD if any of you got a better behaving CD.

To be fair, I do like the sample media that come with the DVD install.

MIne was a dvd too, When I did the clean install it took about 20 mins after the install and said installing applications, but as far as I can tell its still a clean install, did have all the movies and junk that spectrum noted.
Anyone know if anything else happens during the "installing applications" phase?
Only the MCE DVD installer does this. All of my home and pro real recovery disks are real windows CD's with a few dell changes.
This is why I downloaded MCE from MSDN as a backup installer. =)~

Just got the MCE recover disc from Dell for the extra Key sticker. =)
My MCE2K5 DVD does the same thing but it only installed like 2 pieces of bloatware. It is still a clean install compared to what they sent it with. I even left the ESPN Zone bloatware they had on there. It actually was pretty sweet (I do love my sports )
