thanks alot for the info, i have been looking for that answer for a while now because of the fact that pinmodding a 1.6 dothan is pretty much guaranteed to work

i didnt know you could pinmod a dothan...u have to have a banias i thought, with the 533 chipset mobo?

you need a 400 fsb p-m with 533fsb capable chipset.

the PentiumM MUST be a Dothans CPU running at 400Mhz Bus. The wire is common and can be stripped out of any appliance such as a lamp or a phone charger and such.

Are you sure about the dothan stuff? I thought the banias and the dotan are pin compatible, so if the motherboard feeds 533 fsb to the banias, why should it stop working (except that it may not work stable enough when overclocked)?
It also should work with celeron-m, but that ruinning your battery life

Banias doesnt have a cpu that runs at 533 Bus which would be the problem. Not to mention banias cpus cost nearly as much as dothans cpu so why not? If your going to use a banais then you might as well use those celeron cpus which are dothans cores running at 400mhz and 1mb cache just like the banias

That there are not banias with 533FSB does not mean that they can't run at 533 FSB. As the mainboard is responsible for creating the FSB it's the same as with the Dothans, as long as they work stable when overclocked they should work the same.

Yes, celeron-ms also should work, but as they are stripped - non-speedstep p-ms that's really no good idea.

And yes, banias cpus are not cheaper than dothans anymore, but maybe someone has an unused banias lying around and wants to give it a shot, cause banias and dothans with same clock are almost speedcomparable.

Pin layout is different so if your looking for a banias then just get the Dothans celeron which costs less than the banias and is a 99.9% assured pin mod.
