stutter problems when playing games

Hi there,
I’m having problems with my computer. Every time I try and play games such as Joint opps, Call of duty or Black hawk down I get a stuttering problem. It’s so bad that you just can’t play the game. I’ve tried uninstalling everything on my laptop by using the recovery disk and have then only installed the bare minimum of software. However this did not cure or improve the problem.
Any ideas anyone?

Here is the spec of my laptop

Acer Travelmate 4501Lci
Intel Pentium M 715 processor
1.5GHz, 400MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache
ATI mobility radeon 9700/64MB
40 GB HDD
512 MB DDR

P.S. I’m partially o.k. with computers but once the use of complex computer jargon comes in to pplay then I’m useless

I assume you have already tried lowering the resolution and detail and have updated video drivers. You might want to take a look at your memory usage during the game. Hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL" which should bring up the Window task manager, hit the performance tap and see how much memory is being used. If you are over 512MB than the answer is simple, you ran out of memory and the game is hitting the HD for swap.

Check Powerplay tab in properties for ATI display card. Click on POWERPLAy Settings button and see if you have Optimal Performance or Balance set for Plugged In mode. If Balance, that might be what causes stutter. Move it to Optimal Performance then.

Thanks for the reply. pressed "CTRL+ALT+DEL" and memory usage came up as 420MB. i've also tried the other alternatives you mentioned, but no luck.
Thanks anyhow

I could not find powerplay. i looked in control panel-system-hardware tab-device manager.

In Control Panel run Display applet, click on the Settings tab (last in a row) and then on Advanced button (lower-right corner on the tab). A new window opens. There should be a POWERPLAY(tm) tab on it.

Powerplay is only active if u use Batterymode. If u pluged in PP is not active. Your prob is simply ur crappy GPU. With the 64MB 9700 u will not be able to play COD even in 640* 480 with lowest details. Hard but true, your book is to slow to play games like Call of duty. Last chance could be more Ram, go get 512MB more and try. Otherwise buy a better book, or forget the games..

<cough, cough>... Acer FERRARI 4005!

Why allways a Ferrari? Mine is even faster, costs less and got the same case just without the carbon fiber fake on top.

The carbon fiber finishing is real. 169X is just another normal acer book but a Ferrari is a Ferrari. What grudge did you hold with Ferrari? Just because you can't afford one doesn't mean that you have to go around and brag. I'm happy with my lappy so are you with yours. Quit making such a racquette and go do sumthing else like **** your girlfriend untill she pukes or whatsoever......
