ATI Omega Driver Problems?

I was running the omega drivers(2.6.75a) on my ati x600 powered Compal DL70.
It was ok for a few weeks then I noticed some fuzziness on the screen.. something like a slightly bad reception on the tv, the image is still there but there are constant lines and grains moving all around.

I thought it could be the driver so I uninstalled it. To my surprise without the driver the screen was still problematic. It was a different resolution due to the uninstalled driver but I could still see the problem there.

What could be wrong? Coulld it be a defective video card? Refresh rate?

That's probably normal. I get the same thing running omega drivers on my ati 9000. In my case it's caused when omegadriver's switch to Powerplay mode that downclocks the card to save the battery. I only get that when I sometimes uplug the power supply with the notebook on or when I start on battery. You can turn powerplay off in the options.

that is NOT normal. powerplay should engage/disengage flawlessly regardless of your video card or driver. i have used Omegas without any issues on my 9700, and that DID NOT happen. In recent memory however i switched to NGO drivers, find them to be a bit better (somewhere between +2 and +5 extra fps in CSS) and also have no problem there.

I had this "bad reception" problem on my lappy and a week later the screen died (check out link #1 in sig).

yikes... dead screen......

Ok I think I'll have this unit checked out. I fear it may be the card itself..I ran windows without the driver and the same reception problem occurred.
