D900K DVI max resolution? - Page 2

I don't know Shumba but was thinking Luke would be pretty knowledgeable in these things. On that note don't give Luke a hard time as he does well by us in the community. How many times have you always prayed a vendor would be honest and then let you decide based on the facts to buy or not to buy?

Thank you Luke, it helps to know and be aware.

shumba,
do you have info to verify? would like to see that. DVI-I just means integrated;
meaning it does digital and analog; doesn't necessarily mean dual-link. but i hope
you're right.

cheers.

here is a photo of the back of my 9880 with all the DVI types.

Hope this helps you guys..

ah yes.... the external connector is well known to be a dual-link type. but there's
mention(earlier in this thread i believe) of it not having all 24 pins connected internally,
which affectively makes it single-link. now if this is true, it's strange. cuz why use
a dual-link external connector if the internals is single-link? just use single-link type
connector so as not to confuse customers.

what i'd like to know is if any Sager owner has driven an external display at full native
1920x1200 rez thru DVI. Luke has said it can do only up to 1600x1200. sad if true.

My guess is Clevo uses the Dual Link plug so no matter which plug you connect to it, it will still work. Also might keep people from bending or breaking pins off of other plug types.

I bought a Sager 8890 2 years ago. Been using DVI out to a Dell 24" LCD for over a year running 1920x1200 with zero issues.

Thinking of upgrading to 9750. Am I hearing this correct that technology has actually regressed and that newer machines cannot do 1920x1200 DVI out but their older machines can?
That's what is seems like. Apparently Clevo decided to cut some corners on this. How they get away with this is beyond me really. With a desktop replacement like this, it's a pretty safe bet a lot of people are going to be using external monitors. Why on earth would you limit that to save a couple bucks? Pass the cost onto the consumer, anyone getting a 9750 would be more than willing to pay it.

FWIW, Dell has a new monitor coming out on 6 January 2006. The 30" Dell 3007WFP with a native resolution of 2560x1600(WQXGA) and a 14ms response time. I'm kicking myself in the butt because I just bought a Dell 2405FPW, now I've gotta get one of these. No prices listed yet but I'm guessing $1500-$1800.

I wouldn't kick myself just yet. I've seen the Apple version. It looks like crap. Things just aren't made at that high a resolution yet. It ends up looking "blocky" for lack of a better word. It'd look better if you moved the screen farther away so it looks smaller, but that pretty much defeats the whole purpose of a large display, you know?

Hey Ammo_Collector, is that your car?

yes

I see we both are lucky enough to have 993s! Mine's a 993 C2 with Pss9 on Kinesis Supercups. Always loved the C4S's though.

We also share the Dell 2405FPW - incredible monitors, especially when you have them on articulating arms. I hear they can be had now for under $800, which is an amazing price for the best monitor around.

Now back to the 9750, if I can't run DVI to my 2405FPW, that's a deal-breaker for me. Although an Athlon 64 X2 raided notebook sounds awesome, not being able to run digital 1920x1200 on 24" negates the performance IMO.

Let me get this straight, the following are most like NOT DVI(dual link) models at this time 9750,9890, and 5720. Then the only ones up to this point from experience of others is the D900x line up to and including the 9880.

Darth beavis says he can run an external monitor on his hypersonic FX7 at 1900x1200.

http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...17#post1554117

Now the question is if Clevo is shipping cheaper machines to Sager without this capability.

Hypersonic FX7?!?

So I verified with DarthBeavis that indeed his Hypersonic FX7 D900K based notebook does indeed do 1920x1200 via external DVI.

So why is Sager's version of the D900K not allowing 1920x1200 DVI? Maybe it does and no one has verified it? Driver issue?
Hey Luke, you got any info on this? We really need to get this sorted out.

so there's a glimmer of hope. hopefully, one of us with a 9750 can verify this with the
proper external display.

bump. Really need an answer on this issue.
I have a 9750, and I won't have access to a 1920x1200 monitor for a few weeks but if no one has given a definitive answer by then, I will post my results
post #39 of 62
My first post, registered to find out if it was ever determined if the 9750 supported the Dell 2405, i.e. supported 1920x1200 on the external DVI?

I'm ready to order one but this is a showstopper.
I can't believe PCTorque and anybody else hasn't responded here, especially after how many people are saying it's a showstopping issue for them. And it's a 30 second test too.

I guess these vendors just care about the bottom line and don't want to spread ANY bad news about the notebook.
