Yonah - Page 2

Then again the latest stuff is always far more expensive (fewer coupons available also), and buggy... so by the time everything is sorted out and you are ready to use it, prices drop...

Upgrading now with all the discounts is the best option... deals on Yonah will be next november/december...

Yonah seems like a strange release to me, because if Merom really does make it out by the end of 2006, Yonah will have had less than a year in the spotlight before becoming old news ... same with Apple refreshing their notebooks with Yonah chips between January and July (depending on who you ask). By the time Yonah Powerbooks come out they'll already be outdated.

kinda being a hypocrit cause i said anyone who buys a laptop in december with yonah coming out in january would be an idiot. however, i just couldnt help it, the 7800gtx go was just too good to pass up.

anyway, the coolest thing about sonoma is the pinmodding. i should be getting a pinmodded 2.0ghz cpu, which should blow away a 1.66ghz DC yonah in just about everything.

the best part about yonah though is the ability to upgrade to merom. however, the dual core pentium m platform is going to be bottlenecked due to the lack of on-die memory controller like the one amd has. merom might not be as good as everyone thinks it will be, and there is a good chance that the release date would slip.

thats the plan. ibooks=outdated. powerbooks=performance. people arent going to spend a thousand bucks for an aluminum palmrest.

I agree. I suspect in reality Merom won't be out until at least Q1 2007.

It would. According to news sites, "Intel partners" (whoever they are) are confirming that Intel is launching Yonah Jan 6th '06 and Intel Viiv Jan 9th '06.

That is interesting how Intel seems to be timing these major upgrades just after the holidays. I am guessing that these major upgrades almost always prompt a flurry of new purchases, so by making them available AFTER the holiday buying frenzy they more or less guide the market into a second buying frenzy. The people who puchased as part of the holiday buying frenzy will then be that much closer to needing to upgrade - due to the introduction of the newer technology. And so the cycle continues. . .
