Anyone know how to use the 9860 built in microphone? It doesn't appear to show up in any of the audio or control panel settings.

Yep

Sure - It's located about 2 inches to the left of the power / battery LED's 3/4" below the bottom of the LCD glass. There's a small hole and a diagram of a microphone.

Whats the point of a built in camera if it doesn't have a built in mike?

Yeah, I've gotten mine to work, BARELY.

It's so weak, it barely picks you up when the +20 dB Boost is enabled and you have your face up to the little hole and talk loudly.

It's crap.

Well that's good and bad news!

Is it on the "Realtek HD Audio rear input"? Is it the "Microphone" slider? And where do you turn on the +20db boost?

Thanks!

Sorry Denn, that's why I was positing - I can't figure out how to get mine to work. That 20db boost may be the clue, but I don't know how to turn the boost on.

Unless you already have the little speaker icon in your taskbar, go to START>CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES. Place a checkmark on "Place volume icon in the taskbar". While you are there, click on the "AUDIO" tab at the top. Make sure the default device is "Realtek HD Audio rear output". Once done, click on "Volume" which opens up another window. Click on "Options" then Properties and make sure there is a checkmark besides "Microphone". You should then be able to set your Microphone sensitivity/volume. Hope this helps.

I found my Mike actually does work, but as VaidTalon said, it's pretty useless. I have to shout with my face up against the screen to be heard at all.

I still haven't found the +20dB boost that was mentioned though?

My first computer:

Sinclair ZX-Spectrum
48K Ram
Microdrive (continous tape loop that stretched and gained capacity the more you used it)
ZXPrinter (sparks vaporized aluminum paper)
Cassette Interface for storing programs at, I think, 2400 baud.
Color TV output!
"Dead Flesh" feel keyboard.
