OK, I wanted a 15" laptop with DVI pass thru supporting 1600 X 1200 and I opted to purchase the nc8000 HP.
Rec'd it today and here are my first impressions.
After typing on a Thinkpad for the last few years, the keyboard is not even close to the quality of the IBM's. In fact, the spacebar doesn't work unless you really press it very hard. I'll be calling for a replacement on Monday.
The other thing I was hoping they would have changed is the buttons for the track point. They still require way too much pressure to click.
The keyboard, trackpoint, and touchpad are definitely HP not Compaq.
The screen looks pretty good.
The laptop is quiet and the build quality is pretty good, not great. The space saver for the multibay is flimsy as heck.
The sound is pretty good, but the volume controls on the bottom right outside of the case suck. No feedback what so ever that you are adjusting the volume. Once again, on the IBM's, there is an onscreen display that pops up showing you on a scale how much you are adjusting the volume by.
I still can't get it to recognize any of the computers on our network. Something's wrong there.
The wireless found my router without any problems.
The weight is very nice. Not too heavy for a 15" laptop.
I'll have to use it a while to see if the keyboard starts working.
That's it for now.
