Advice, please!

In 2002, I bought a Toshiba 5005-S504 notebook. It had, essentially, the most exceptional graphics card/cpu combo for the price. Coincidentally, I have recently begun looking for a new notebook computer.

It all began about two weeks ago; I was content on convincing my parents to get me a notebook for Christmas. In any event, I finally convinced them to cover half of a new notebook. I began looking, first, at notebooks we carry at Sears (where I work). I found only one that would fulfill my need for gaming on a mobile system. It was an HP Zd7000. However, I researched the graphics card (NV GForce FX 5600), and was highly disappointed in the benchmarks when compared with the ATI MR 9600.

At that point, I thought to myself, "Alienware is awesome". I had seen the desktop models at Best Buy. So, I went to their web site, saw that their notebook was more reasonably priced for features than it ever had been (recently the price went up though ). In any event, I like to research before I invest in something that I hope will last me a long while. Thus I came to these forums, read a few negative posts by Sonic, and went to the bewareofalienware web site. I found that that site was mostly rhetoric. Most of the negative experiences were caused by the consumer, in my opinion.

Anyway. the question I am trying to get to is: For app. $2600 will this be the best notebook I can get (for the price, in terms of gaming)? I've seen Dell and their offers are enticing, but nonetheless I know (or have heard that) a lot of their product is proprietary, which I learned with my Toshiba was a BAD thing.

Also, does anyone know when the next ATI Mobility Radeon Graphic card will come out, and will it be able to be used (for sure) right away for the upgradeable graphics capability of the 51-m?

Thanks

If you got $2600 to spend, then one word my friend: VOODOO

Check out their laptops at voodoopc.com (Voodoo>>AW And I own a AW )
But their laptops are so much better than AW its not even funny. But they are more $$$ then AW.

That would be nice price for an Alienware notebook. Mine didn't even cost that much. And yes you will be able to put the new gpu in the lappy.

Marius,

We can expect the new Radeon Mobility 9700 Modules in the next month. So you will be able to upgrade OR you could wait till then.

IMHO...$2600 will get you a heck of a lapper...whatever the Brand you go with.
