I'm going to buy a new notebook, a Dell D610 or a Fujitsu LifeBook S7020.. however I have some point on this last one:

How noisy is the S7020 ?
In this post it looks very noisy:

The D610 will have a 7200 rpm HD, is that more noisy or....

How hot / warm is the S7020 after 2-4 hours ?

is the notebook unusable after 4 hours ?

I preffer the S7020 because of the weight, just 1.9 KG with a CD/DVD drive, the 610D is 2.4 KG.

Are there any more comments on the S7020 ?

easydisk,
I actually own one of each. I've had the Fuji 7020 for about a year, bought it from Portableone.com. I had a big 'ol 9lb. Dell before that and wanted something light. I just got the Dell D610 the other day. I debated about another Fuji, but I'll tell you why I went D610 below.

The Fuji has been fine, not a single problem. The fan can rev up occasionally if you are running really intensive tasks. I haven't heard the D610 make a peep yet. They both have 7200 RPM drives in them, but I when I checked the 7020 at Portableone recently, the 7200 upgrade wasn't available like last year.

The D610 is about a pound heavier and I'm not sure if you can remove the DVD drive or not to lighten it up, haven't gotten that far. But I will say that the Dell is much more sturdy and should last much longer as far as case construction. It's their new tri-metal design. The Fuji is light, but you'll figure out why. It's only a year old, but it flexes a lot and I've cracked the little vent slats on the bottom by picking it up one handed and my finger pressure snapped the slats.

Heat seems to be a horse race. They can both keep your lap warm pretty well. Fujitsu did put some nice felt pads over the warmest parts on the bottom. I might try to find something similar for the D610.

Bottom line, I think the Dell is more solid if this is going to be a keeper for a long time. But the Fujitsu is a pound lighter and also thinner if portability is yoru main priority. The Dell latches more securely. I like the little rocker switch on the Fuji trackpad, not on the Dell.

Hope that helps.
