Ive now changed the order to a 256 7800 go gtx, and the processor is now 64 bit with a 2 meg cache, however alienware says the 7800 is extremely difficult to get into the country right now, so it wont arrive in the factory till mid next week , but thats cool i guess because when i do get it, itll be all the more awesome. Anyway, how do you think this setup will run things like F.E.A.R, and even more improtantly, BF2.

Thanks

It (7800gtx) will run bf2 with out breaking a sweat. The 7800gtx will actually run anything out their really well. Fear I cant speek for I never played it. A regular 6800go runs bf2 with np. Two gigabytes of ram is good, that is a must specially with bf2. Only thing I personally would have done was gone with a higher res screen.

That computer should play F.E.A.R. and BF2 on full settings at native resolution. It's going to be faster than my desktop...

negatory it doesnt run bf2 perfectly a new comp with an AMD 4400+ and 3 gigs of good corsair ram not exactly sure the type cant even play that game perfectly
my comp IN the siggy sometimes has a little lag on ultra high everything and highest resolution
and u can have F.E.A.R. on med graphics with my card with 1280 by **** res and still lag some times so its good tahat ur getting the 7800 card
bf2 will run GREAT with taht card it runs great with the 6800 ultra but ur getting the 7800
it also runs cooler than my and uses less power and u can brag about it

Alienware's reliability is starting to annoy me now, I was talking to one of their reps online for like 30 mins, and he said that even though I had waited the extra two weeks because of the demand for the 7800, it still hadn't arrived and that I should call them back the following week, which I shall do some time on monday, as they should have been communicating with their courier's over how long it is actually going to take to get the card in (or at least I expect they would be communicating with them), and now should be able togive me a solid delivery on the card. I know that in the end its going to be a great system, but just giving me a time that I will be able to mark down as a definete date for delivery instead of making early guesses that they know they cannot stick to, its just starting to annoy me now.

ya it only runs fear on medium i have the res up to the max so thats a big reason for the lag but ya it lags on ultra high everything

Has anybody got a recommendation as to the approach to getting the alienware guys to give me a more solid eta? I want to be firm, which I am starting to be, but i dont want to be a total dick and just do more harm than good.

How do I find out which processors are 64 bit?

Also, does the Area-51 come with any firewire ports?

thanks

I just spec'd my system again at the website and see they have a 10 day wait on the 7800 and 30 day lead time for the 1920x1200 res screen. Feel happy you didnt just order as the wait is over 30 days at the moment.
