What can I say... WOW. This thing is great. This is the first laptop I've owned and I'm glad I got the best. The screen really does look great.

Only beef I have with it is the cdrw/dvd drive is slower than ****(any four letter word will do). Other than that every it meets or exceededs all my expections.

BTW... If anyone is getting ready to buy a mouse for their 8887/8886 get a logitech MX500. It matches the laptop's color perfectly. =)

stuck with m$

Well, I'd like to get that MX500 but since I am getting a HYBRID paint job, I got the matching mouse...

Too bad colorware/pctorque doesn't offer a can of paint-to-match, so we can paint our own mice & keyboards... ah, then I'd have to sand and repaint... too much work, forget I asked.

I much prefer Logitech's stuff over Microsofts (keyboard, mice and joysticks). Too bad they only color MS stuff (ie Alienware, Hypersonic, et. al)

A logitech Cordless Desktop custom colored would be sweet - as would that MX500 hi-rez mousie.

Congratuations!

Um, when you say the drive is slow, which one do you mean?:

a) CD READ
b) CD WRITE
c) DVD READ
d) ALL

Thanks! Cheers.

pop quiz, hope he studied,lol...

Kinda weird that you mention the drive speed as slow... it's the fastest any notebook has to my knowledge :-) Do you mean compared to desktops? Desktops have about double the read speed on their best dvd rom drive, and just over that for cd roms, and about double the write speeds... But, as I said, in laptops this is the best you can get internally. Used to be the best was 8x write... that's what I have on my school lappy. I take a nap when I burn cds :-)

And the answer is...

When loading from a cd... i.e. installing a game or software.

Now that is dependent on both the cdrom and the hard drive, which is 5400rpm... so laptops in general will install things more slowly... but, that is in general. And, it pretty much only applies to install times and the like...

I think that it is the slow access time, as compared to a desktop cd...

Go with the Green! It'll make people ESPECIALLY Envy-ous. I'll post a bunch of pics as soon as I get the thing.

Cheers.

Just installation? I don't have a problem with that, however... have you tried actually playing games that load stuff off the CD? Is it slow then too?

Thanks! Cheers.

I, too, could not easily decide between the green and the "orangish-rust" - it was very difficult, and I probably can go either way.

Alienware's pics look great for that green, but the orangish-rust (hot-rod orange?) that HYBRID is, just seems more original.

I'll post pictures when it comes in. Maybe YALE2006 can post pics of his Green-machine, too. Provided you can hold out that long (end of Feb/early March is when mine comes in)...

Maybe there should be a LIMITED/Moderated thread of CUSTOM COLOR pics only... like a Forum Gallery.

Just my $0.02 worth,

definitly...
my only fear (??) is that envy green is gonna be sooo popular that in a few month it s gonna be "the new black"...

..hybrid on the other hand my seem like a "false low key dope" color..if that make any sens at all
