Dell 9300 vs. Alienware Area-51 m5700 - Page 3

Just getting back on the AW vs.9300, doesn't the M5700 have that button that controls how much fan you want and the 9300 doesn't have that so isn't it better to buy the 5700 so you can save some battery?

no, you can always just use i9kfangui with the 9300 and have even more control over it.

Also, on the AW 5500 you can switch from the nvidia 6600 and the onboard intel GUP. As a gamer I never will use that feature. Also, on the 6800 go (9300) you can set the GUP to max battery (lower performance) if you are on the go.

you can just get an external 2.5" firewire harddrive and backup your data to it. its not very convenient, but at least you dont have to carry two harddrives with you everywhere...

That's a point raid 0 or 1 drives. Also that's add a little more weight. The M5700 starts at 8lbs (with no raid).

And as drizek said, we can add an external firewire hd and you can use it on other pc or laptop.

i think the choice is extremely easy.

these two are speced exactly the same, teh only differences are that with the alienware the bluetooth is external, not built in, and of course, the alienware has a 6800go and the 9300 has a 7800gtx go. the 9300 also comes with an extra 256mb ram, x300, a 6 cell battery, and a 90w power adapter. those add up on ebay...

my 9300, specs in sig, came out to about $1650, including tax and shipping

an alienware speced exactly teh same(with a gig of ram from newegg) came out to about 2040 shipped.

basically, you are paying $400 to get a notebook that is half as powerfull. there is no contest.

how does the 9300 have a 7800 gtx...i go to dell.com and they only have the GeForce Go 6800? the only way i know to get the 7800 on it is opening the lappy up and exchanging it. where can i get a 9300 automatically built in with the 7800?

You will have to void your warranty and install a 7800 gtx yourself, which some might not have the heart to do. Not that it is that challenging of an installation.
installign a 7800gtx does NOT void your warranty. yes, you do have to do it on your own, but it is not difficult.

if you dont want to install it yourself, you can get a sager 5720 with the same specs as the 9300 for about the same price as the alienware.

about how much $$$ do you have to spend on all the stuff like the gpu and all the stuff?

Of course it voids your warranty dude, your putting in hardware that wasn't meant to be installed in the 9300. Not only that but your flashing the bios to a hacked xps bios, which definently would void the warranty. Anyone who thinks they still legitimately have a warranty on their 9300 after installing a 7800 is kidding themselves.

And djmaster, just go to the 9300/xps forum and you will get all the information you would need about the costs and procedures of modifying the 9300.

idk about anybody else, but i think i should have gone with the aw.

1) the screen you all know about, getting it replaced AGAIN.
2)speakers crackle under medium volume
3)headphone jack doesnt really work

You know with aw youll get a shit long delivery time, but an AW. Nuf said for me.

AW is the holy grail in my eyes.

I love my Dell XPS2 to death. It's close enough to the 9300 to say that it's an AMAZING computer. I can't believe how happy I am with it. I have absolutely zero complaints about this device.
the price difference on the 9300 is just too much to pass up.
ya, an asus z71v would have been a nice lappy for me, but why get that when you can get a 7800gtx go for a few dollars more?

also, i am very pleased with the build quality of my 9300. our 6000 was terrible. once i paint thisthing and my lcd gets here(the guy said within 24hrs) it will be perfect.

I think that the 9300 is perfect. Also the AW s&h to Puerto Rico was $240. That's stupid.
Well i guess no one answered me, does anyone know how to take raid 1 out of my second hard drive so i can use it as a regular one instead of a back up one? it's an AW lappy hard drive
