5680 Problem, reboots after 20mins or so - Page 2

Well, im hoping that its not the slot, theres a chance it MIGHT be tho. Both of my RAM sticks work fine when they are alone, but they give the error when both are in. And yes, our lappys support dual 1 gig sticks. But notice how you got no performance decrease when you pulled out one stick of 512? Putting that 512 back in is basically what the 2 gigs will feel like...Not much of a difference tilll later when games and stuff will utilize that much RAM

yeah, it was weird that I still played UT2K3 at the highest settings, and still no hickup! damn, that sucked if the slot is messed up. I don't feel like sending my lappy to them hehe.

Hmm i was having this same problem, but i sent my laptop in because i thought i had a bad video card. Do you think sager tech will check the memory as well?

Floyd, they should. You can call them also and tell them that you think its the memory

update: well, after a breif short period of relief the problem is back again, but this time I ran a memory tester that was mention in the forums a bunch of times and I have gotton over 200,800 errors within 18mins of the test on the "ONE" memory stick I left in the laptop. So I guess both memory sticks are F-Up right now. I took some pictures of the screen and going to send it to the tech guy that has reply'd to my email yesterday evening. Hopefully they won't need anymore proof and gave me the run around to get two new memory sticks shipped to me. I'll keep everyone posted.

update: Ok it was a bad memory stick, it was just that one that I had left in. The one that I took out was the good memory stick. I did the memory test on it just a few mins ago and no errors with it. So good thing it was just the bad memory stick, I was about to sell this sucker, but good thing it was just a bag memory stick.

hey Floss, yeah it sucks I was in some important files and it got lost durning this crap, here is what I did.

1. http://www.memtest86.com/#download0 went here and downloaded their memory diag. check.
2. install it to a floppydisk
3. insert floppydisk to floppydrive
4. turn off computer.
5. download the manual for the 5680 thats on the forums or check your own manual.
6. do the steps to get to the memory sticks. take one of them out, I took the first one to the top near to the lcd screen.
7. close it up and you should have one memory stick to test out.
8. turn the computer back on.
9. press f1 (i think, if not try f2) right at the begining of the screen were it shows the bios number, then a small check on your memory, and to see if all the drives are in its place, keep on pressing it until the screen goes away.
10. a small window appears about 4-5 options, choose the that says floppy disk i think thats the first one.
11. computer will now boot the memory diag. program from the floppy disk.
12. the test will begin automacticly so just sit back for a few mins and watch the error section to the right of the screen.

Now for me, luckly I had the bad memory in the computer so right off the bat I got a few errors, until about 20mins later I got about 208,000 errors on the memory. So i just stop it there cause it was the bad one. I then shutdown the computer and put in my other memory stick that was to the side and did a test on it. No errors for the first 5-10mins, so I booted up my computer and ever since its running like a champ. I hope this helps ya man! If you need any more help AIM me at djdorifto, and I will be more than happy to help you out =D. Goodluck!

If you're lucky, memtest will find a problem and you can cross-ship RAM.
I had the same problem, but memtest found nothing wrong with either stick so Sager replaced my 5680.

"....now its just locking up at times and nothing but the power button will un-freeze it...no cntl alt dlt no mouse movement, nothing...."

Was having this problem, I searched and came up with one answer "Uninstall InCD" if you have it installed. Something about it checks the CD drive for re-writable disks and when not found tends to lock it up.
I deleted it and have no more lockups. Probably a simpler way but this worked for me.

Hope you have a Great Day

Actually, I have the exact same problem (except with a 5660), the blue screen of death, etc. I completely cleaned out my heatsink, applied some thermal grease, and switched the ram from one port to the other. But the thing is that after the computer locks up, I'm forced to use the power button to shut it down. However, after rebooting, it'll crash on the first screen, or the first screen (where all your components are listed) will only appear half-way or sometimes not at all. I think it's the CPU overheating, but I'm still not too sure. I'm RMA-ing it this week but I was wondering about a second opinion...or third...
