All owners of Mx438G take a look at here!!

Uh-huh.
There is a big a$$ "WARNUNG" and text on the german Amilo M3438G page here that says there is a common problem with the M3438G/M4438G laptops that can lead to strange performance problems, pauses and erratic behaviour.

This is straight from the Fujitsu-Siemens itself.

I suggest that you all take a look at it. I really, really hate that it's only in german and you need to use the damn Babelfish or like to get any idea what is really said there if you don't yourself speak german....
So if anybody who's fluent could make a translation to english from what is said on the page about this subject and then post it here, I would be very thankful and most likely would rep you more than couple times.

So please, someone?

RuptuReD!

I'm not fluent in German, but I have read the thread both in english and german and think I understand the problem described here. I have seen City Cobra talking about these problems before. He describes problems regarding jerks and lags during game play. In particular these problems are evident when playing World Of Warcraft, Warcraft3 Frozen of thrones and Quake 3. Members of the german Amilo forum seem to have traced the problems to the IRQ ressources shown in the system properties.

I have checked my own IRQ settings and they match City Cobra's. I have not played the games mentioned above, but I have noticed lags from time to time. Especially when I have played certain films.

It seems that Uniwill have taken notice of this problem and that they are currently working on a solution, The same goes for FS.

Personally I have not experienced these problems in the same extent as City Cobra. But the apparent conflict in the IRQ settings do worry me. If you could check yours and post any troubles here it would be great. I will try to send a e-mail to city cobra and ask him to make a posting here and explain these problems in english.

How can I display any IRQ conflicts ???

You can view the IRQ settings from Start -> Control Panel -> Performance and maintenance -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager -> There select: Show, Resources by type and then IRQ.

Just how great it would be if all the posts on http://www.amilo-forum.de were in english?
Translators still needed here to make sense from this all...

I contacted City Cobra and here is what he replied:

Hi TapDance,

i give your Email to Borkar from Amilo-Forum, because his english ist 1000x better as mine.
I think your have say it fine in the notebooksforums.com and you have understand all.

I told Borkar, that he should open a new thread in notebooksforums.com about this problem in english, then i will make a link to the thread on my site.

Greetings
Michael

I wonder whether the AlienWare Area-51 m5700 has this same bug as it's(?) basically the same machine?
Could there be any chance that the BIOS in the AW machine would work for the Fujitsu and have better range of options (maybe the ability to change the IRQs for example)?

However, thanks a lot from the rundown Borkar.

No, the AW NB should have the same problems since it is the same machine with the same drivers and the same BIOS. And they are all built by the same manufacturer.

I doubt the AW BIOS would help any...although it might be modified to correct the problem, it prolly wouldn't have any options you could adjust yourself. My older AW has a BIOS that is incredibly locked down, about the only thing that can be changed are boot drives and internal wireless.

1437 has the same mainboard. So it is probable, that you have the same bug as well. But I have not got so many replies of people with a 1437 machine, so the 1437 is not mentioned in the article. But I guess that a fix for this issue will also be a fix for the 1437.

I own a 3448G and sometimes it crashes and freezes at startup. I also have some of that lag problem while listening to music. I'll send that template email.
So this problem is a bug that is possible for FS to fix?

I have definately noticed probs in Call of Duty so have sent off the template...
I have also just extended my warrantly to 3 years for cost of £100 on the fujitsu online shop. I figure for the extra £100 I am guaranteed a lappy for at least 3 years...

I act on the assumption that it will be a BIOS Update that will also update the RAID-BIOS.

Yeah this sux.. i have it too. It wasnt untill yesterday when me and my pals installed Fifa06 and NHL06. Was gonna play those games through 3438G and my projector. Game freezing once a minute for 1-2 secs. Pretty irritating.
You can add to the list. Fifa05, Fifa06, NHL06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Raven Shield.

Unplayable cos of this, i was gonna go and send my laptop back and get my money back as well.. but i guess i can wait untill january =)
