I haven't got new info.

Ok, maybe you are interested in the mail I got from VIA (manufacturer of the RAID controller) on January 23rd. The mail doesnt change the status "Working on the problem....." but it is maybe interesting for you.

Thx Borkar

Very interesting mail from Uniwill. Not so interesting from VIA.

Today i just refused to pick up my 4438 from support. They phoned me and told me it was back from FSC and when i asked what they've done the support guy (very resonable guy) replied that they cleaned the processor fan (I guess it was heavily polluted after 3 weeks use ^^). So i enlightened him that this won't solve my problem and asked them to test the computer or i would just return it again (and again and again and again) he agreed that there probably are some sort of compatibility problem so hopefully something good will come out of all this in the end.

But in the meantime im still paying for a computer that i dont have access to. So its a bit sucky anyway.

Regards

Well, I think I give up the FS 3438.
Just got a good proposal from Dell:

Quote:
Inspiron 9400 Duo Processor T2400 (1,83 Ghz)
17" Ultra sharp WUXGA (1920x1200) Truelife
Carbon Fiber Snap-on LCD cover
1024Mb 667Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
80Gb 5400rpm SATA
8x DVD+/- RW drive
9cell Battery
256Mb Geforce 7800 Go Graphic Card
Intel Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g 54Mbps) for Duo processor
TrueMobile 350 Internal bluetooth module

3 year service NBD

MS MCE, Works, DVD Cyberlink, Record Now, Mcfee suite subscription 1,5 year
For 1935 Euro.

Only thing I'm considering is a 7200rpm HD and a carrying case.
Asked at Dell to round it on 2000 Euro. Hope they can.

Maybe more expensive then the 3438, but get a lot more.
What do you think, good deal and alternative?

I don't have this problem yet ( I keep my fingers crossed)
But I would like to thank Borkar for all the time he puts down in this.
Great work Borkar.

this is what i can't get my little head round.

if it's a hardware issue, why doesn't EVERYONE have it? And why does it come on all of a sudden (out of nowhere apparently)?

Unless something physically gets damaged inside the machine...

Could this be the case?

Its very unlikely that something is physically broken.

Im wondering if something has been changed in the later series of computers since Belch for example dont have any problem while I do. His computer was delivered over 6 months earlier while mine was delivered a month ago.

Well, finalised my deal with Dell. No more 3438 for me.

Together with the 7200 rpm HD and a carryingcase ... all for 2000 Euro.

For you who want to be the FS, please have a look at the new 9400 of DELL and make direct contact with a sales man to get a good deal.

For those who have the FS and the bug, good luck with it and I hope it gets solved. Nothing is more disturbing then paying a lot of money for something that doesn't work properly.

Greetings,
Lemke

Well I bought this later than my friend. My friend has 2x512 400mhz RAM and I have 2x512 533mhz RAM. Thats one change I quess.. Yeah and my friend doesnt have these lags and i do.
There are two kinds od lags I get.
1)Noticed only when playing, the game freezes for about ½-1sec once in a while. Some of these could be normal loadings, but I'm sure most aren't.
2)The whole system freezes for about 1-1½ secs, and if theres sound coming from the lappy the sound loops for that time when the system is freezed which is very annoing. This can happen whenever and whatever I do with the lappy and the sound can be noticed if I listen to music for example.

Does anyone have this sound loop thing?

Sound problem - no sound!

Hi folks,
Brother of my girlfriend buy this piece of shit. He ask me to repair it..

After 4 days of suffer i foud this forum. 1-st i want to say thank you to Borkar. You give me hope..

To my problems.

1) via raid. After connect 2-nd disk in windows disk manager. -> lag -> BSOD.

2) Sound card.

when i remove driver and reconnect -> sound ok. Restart no sound from speakers (hedaphones only) WTF?
(i found drivers on fs site and realtek site -> no luck for me)

3) Install winxp - pro -> unknow type of batery. ??? wtf??

4) Instant on 3in1 how to install??

Can i somehow change irq? (windows says irq13 is for raid, soud card, modem)

I think FS make good computers, but this....

Sorry for bad english

GL for all!, hope for patch

I'm also having problems with the wlan speeds. The speed may drop down to 1mb once in a while and sometimes I get totally disconnected, but an instant connection retry gets me back online right away. Some tell me to install the wlan drivers from intel, could that help? Anyone having poor speeds with wlan?

I got great speed with wlan. Im using intel latest wlan driver.

First off all, thanks for this great forum. It helped me a lot with some problems I had with choosing the right notebook.
For the lagging problem, so far I didn't encounter any, , hppefully it will stay like that. I'm playing at the moment, Far Cry, COD2, Enemey Territory. Could it be that this has to do with the fact that my amilo has a SCSI HD??

For the problem with the WLan, I also had terrible connections with the original FSC driver. I installed the intel driver and, voila, connection speed is most of the time 54Mbps. sometimes it dropes, but not as it used to do with the older driver.

So hopefully Playerdude it will help you
Yeah, updated to the latest drivers from intel, working fine so far ))
REALLY nice, hope it stays like this.

The only problem that is left is these stupid lags!
Once I get these lags fixed (hopefully we all do) I have a kickass laptop :P
post #176 of 338
playerdude,
I get exactly the same problem as you, on cd audio playback. The sound goes odd for about half a second. This occurs about once every 15 minutes, but its quite random and for no apparent reason.
I've never experienced anything like this on my previous 6 or 7 PC's I've ever owned.

I'm using XP Pro, 2x80Gb Fujitsu drives in a striped Raid 0, 2.13 Ghz CPU.
I seriously hope that this lagging problem can be fixed!
I'd really like to know how far are we of getting a patch that would fix our systems!
So, is it the motherboard that causes this? Who is trying to solve this lag, FS? Board manufacturer? Is it even possible to fix this?
Do we even know that is this a hardware failure or just a software/driver bug?

Oh c'mon, people have done working comps for a long time already, why is it so difficult to fix one lagging issue

BTW, does anyone know whats wrong, because i'm having problems running hd videos, like ATIs ruby demos, on media player 10 on my amilo 3438. The framerate stutters and cant keep up the right speed. These videos work on BSplayer though.

HD videos work fine on my desktops media player 10.
