Keyboard wears out? What,s the condition of your keyboard?

Hi, before i buy my first Notebook, i want to ask your view about one keyboard issue. As you use your laptop, its keyborad becomes a bit shiny and old-looking with time. I wonder could it be just in a few months as some people mentioned in these forums.
Please speak out what notebook you have, since how long you are using it, and how is the look of your keyboard, touchpad area. Also please specify your type of use, light use, medium or hreavy use. Thanks
Two of my friends have Acer TM & Dell Inspiron 6000 respectively. Their notebook use is light. I saw their kayborad, still new, no shining, no wear, and they have it since few months, 3 months or so.
Just more of a cosmetic issue but i am stuck on it.
Will post this issue to some other forums also.So please don,t mind if you find same thread somewhere else.

I currently have 3 laptops. My primary laptop an Asus S5n which is an ultraportable gets heave use, at least 10 hours a day, except for weekends. It has some shinney keys but not that bad, mainly in the "home row." and as for the touch pad, if i keep it clean its not shinney. I have had hte S5n for about 8 months.

The second laptop is an Alienware Area-51m i have had since 2003. The keys are not shinney at all, but the touch pad and the wrist wrests are really shinney. And all i ever used that for really was gaming, the "w", "a", "s", "d" keys though are shinny. I would say this had medium to light use over the whole keyboard.

The third laptop is a Gateway Solo 2550 from 1998, its use was light, its key are fine (the best keyboard i have ever used actually, better feel than any other desktop or laptop keyboard). The touch pad is shinny though.

touchpad and the buttons are dust collectors.
It is strange that from looking at the shiny parts, I figure: I always type spacebar by right thumb
Anyway, all my main keys are shiny (no big deal).
BTW, I have this laptop for uhm 5 months I believe. Use it every single day. More than 10 hours a day I believe.

All keys are shiny, but some keys are shinier than others.

My keys are only slightly shiny after well over a year of use, because I wipe them down on a regular basis. The paint on a few keys is very slightly worn, because my nails scratch against them sometimes. It still looks great though.

Actually, Orwellian statements aside, about four keys + spacebar are shiny on my comp.

But... why is this a problem anyway?

Just to see whether it,s a normal phenomenon or downside of some brands/ models.

That's normal, even my old school MS desktop keyboard shines.

Any piece of plastic that gets rubbed on and tapped on that much will lose its matte finish.
