That's a good price. And I know earlier in this thread you mentioned that you got a quote from Canadasys... I'm just a little puzzled, though. If you price this notebook with the above specs, you get:

Barebones ASUS z70va with bluetooth.....1040
Pentium M 740 1.73GHz..........................245
1 x 1 GB DDR2 533MHz...........................137
DVD-RW DL..........................................158
Hitachi 60GB 7200rpm HD........................187
Total..................................................1767CDN or 1480US
(all prices are from Canadasys' webpage)

They might even knock off a few dollars if you buy it as a complete system. Contrary to what everyone else seems to be saying, I find that Canadasys has one of - if not the - best prices in North America.

As for shipping across the border, you won't have to pay Provincial sales tax, but I believe (and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong) that you have to pay GST. So unless a US price is at least 8% cheaper plus shipping, you're better off buying up here.

Anway, I don't want to piss on your parade... enjoy your z70va. I have one and it's a great machine. Good luck.

Right, the GST you cannot go around, you have to pay. We just got a FREE W3Va as demo from Asus 2 weeks ago, I explained to the Customs it is free demo, but I still have to pay GST plus clearance service charge, I paid them more than CD$270 for the demo.

Sometimes I sent things to US for repair, when they came back, I still got charged, most of the time the Customs won't listen to you, you will be just got charged.

3 years ago, once I got a ATI video card back from warranty service from US, because it was a replacement, the sender forgot the paper work, I got charged GST more than $70, the Customs told me in their booklet, the video should be almost $1000 each, so 7% GST should be about $70, but at that time the market selling price for that card was just about CD$60.

I bought a GPS Bluetooth Receiver for my Pocket PC last year. The package was bad with my particular PPC and the seller agreed to take it back. After I sent back the GPS receiver package, I sent all information (including proof of sending the item back) to the Canadian Customs (I was charged both GST and PST and handling fee). I got all GST, PST and handling fees back in about 2 months' time. I lost the re-stocking fee, postage and the registered package fees and the time involved.

Chado's previous quote was a Dothan 750 which is more expensive and to have 3 years warranty (does not make sense to me to purchase 3 years warranty from the US, shipping costs and customs hassle and costs implications). A 2915 a/b/g wireless card at Canadasys was around $50.

Though Z70va is a good quality laptop and is not expected to have any problems, Hamilton is only about 100kms away from Canadasys, I will stick to purchasing at Canadasys for less hassles with customs. AFAIK, Canadasys provides good services compared with general Ontario ASUS laptop dealers.
