Buying or not buying an Acer? HELP!

Thread Starter
Hi. I'm a college student and I'll buy my first notebook. I'll use it basically for MS Office, internet, DVD movies. I don“t want to expend more than U$S 800, an I think Acer Aspire 3613WLCI (http://www.superwarehouse.com/Acer_A...5.037/p/624004) is a good option, what do you think?
I was reading that Acer notebooks have usually hardware problems , so Toshiba (for example) is a better option. It's that true? Thanks!

I've had bot Toshiba and HP, both broke down (harddrive in HP, lasted a month, and graphics card in Toshiba). Both me and wife have Acers now, without any problems whatsoever. At my job, all students get Acer laptops, and they keep running although sometimes handled rather bad. I would not worry.

I have a Ferrari 4000 and its going in to the shop for the second time. Only had notebook for 2 months personaly i would steer away from acer. I also own a HP ZE1000 i got from a friend who bought it new in 2001 and its till runs and works perfect.

I've used Acer machines for some time now (since i went to uni). I took my old Ferrari 3200 everywhere, bumped it around in my bag etc...It never failed me. Apart from a few small scratches on it, it still runs perfectly.

My new Ferrari 4005 is only about 2months old, but i'm expecting the same standard of quality from Acer. Of course there will be people who have experienced hardware problems, no manufacturer is immune from that, but I'd recommend Acer.

Go for the ACER 3613 if you are not bothered by short battery running hours. Presumably, all economical laptops are equipment with low capacity battery (around 2000mAh). Correct me if I am wrong, there are no high capacity battery for this notebook.

I had a 3000 series Acer and it was wonderful. The keyboard was fabulous, the touchpad was responsive and it didn't create too much heat. That chasis in the link was the same as mine - it had no problems and it looked great.

I wouldn't buy an acer even if my life depended on it. I have no experiance with acer, but they are a not very popular company..I would go with Dell (which I did) because I have bought 3 computers from there, and even though I am having a wireless issue with my computer, I should of known to wait till the wireless N was older and when a lot people were experts at it. But it is really up to you.

Hi there,

I have an Aspire 5602, which I bought for $950 about 4 months ago. I have to say Im quite pleased with it. I havent had any problems with it. I use it mainly for programing and graphics software (3d studio max) and found performance to be good as well.

I researched alot before buying and I found Acer to be the best value for the money.

hope this helps
