Alienware doesn't release their sales figures, so it's impossible to know. Last time I saw anything official, they were getting 6000 orders a month, but that's total orders.

As for me, I have one laptop, no issues, so the percentage for me is 0%.

i have one laptop...tons of issues...the only other guy i know in my city with an aw is having issues...so that's 100% for us

thats a great question. I guess the more i stick aroudn this forum, the more i second guess myself about ordering my aurora 7700. I hear so many horror stories and only a few good stories and experiences...hopefully i will have a pleasnt experience if i go through with this

i used 2 be able to say my lappy was 100% no problems, but my power supply in the lappy broke, so, ya know, im in the problem section now..
I would probably say they have the same issues other large companies have ie:Sager, HP, Asus, Fujitsu Siemens etc...Have a look around, you will see....

All companies have issues!! It's the "After Service and Support" that seals the deal for most individuals and companies...

Defining %'s: People find it easier to complain than to praise....so of course you always hear more complaints....

Like the News really! 80% Bad, 10% Good and 10% stuff n things.....People thrive on "Drama!" .... Sad Really!

If I had money, I would start "The Good News Channel!" Ding! Ding! Ding! "And now for the Good News".............Ha Ha Ha......

so then do u feel AW's "After service and Support" is good? Does it compare with others?
Well, its like AlienRod said, its the After Service and Support that does it. I guess technically my lappy could be put in the "problem" section. I had a fan on the GPU going out and a DVD-RW drive that went bad. I called them up, went through some of the basic checks...he decided to send me a new gfx card and DVD drive. They got here in about 4 or 5 days...everything is peachy now. The tech support team was easy/nice to deal with.

I have been fortuanate NOT to have problems.."Touch Wood!"

Regarding upgrades, software and hardware, AW have always been thorough, and answered my requests within 48 hours by email or instantly on the phone.

I have dealt with HP before and I'm sorry to say they were terrible, then again others have said HP were great......Most of the time it just depends on who is on the other side of the "line"....

Well lilitaly28, put it this way, barring no major problems with this lappy...I'll be purchasing another AW in future.

Thanks for the adive guys. I am calling and ordering my Aurora 7700 right now!!!!
You won't regret it...I was going to wait until the end of the year to see if AW offered any free stuff, but being this is a new build etc...I am sure they will not so I am ordering also.....

I ordered my 7700 soon after they came out, I have had no issues what so ever....these are custom builds from a very good botique builder so every once in awhile, things go wrong with parts but AW assemblies rigs based upon the specs of the person buying....there is no free AOL or "branded" soft or hardware...thank god

Im not defending lack of reliability, But have you ever seen how often a Ferarri owner has to service his car? Not that its an excuse or that they are the same thing, But maybe similar enough, that a high end piece of hardware thats pushed too its limits as far as performance, it ends up needing more service then say a Honda civic.

So in this case I do think you do sacrifice some level of reliability for the faster hotter running hardware.
Point in fact I think maybe this is why the push toward the Cooler running pentium M processors. I think the new line AW has out will be more reliable then historically. Maybe this even why they went this route. Maybe is both more reliable and more cost effective, efficient?
We shall see. Mine will be here soon. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Nicely said!

I've sent it in twice already. It's still in the depot now. 200% for me.
actually, i know ferarri owners...and lambo owners, and a guy who owns a new s7. they've never had problems like what we're having, more importantly, if they DO have issues, their car companies are giving them vehicles to drive while theirs is in the shop...so aw, where are OUR loaner laptops?

the biggest issue with the way that these laptops are crashing isn't that they are being stressed out under unrealistic conditions. it's that they are having problems all across the board, hard drives, keyboards, gpus and motherboards. aw rushed them out the door before they were ready, and in my opinion, most of the 7700s were just tossed together. the best tech support is the tech support that you never need. and aw's support consists of "reinstall the drivers" and "send it in". both of which do no good. they dropped the ball hard in my opinion...but maybe i just have unrealistic standards.

I have had nothing but problems with AW and there laptops. I will never purchase one again.

IT scares me as a new user to this forum to hear so many negative comments about AW, especially after spending more than $2000.00 on a 5500. I sure hope they have worked out all the major issues with the release of the 7700 and incorporated them (the positive changes, not the problems) into the 5500. I must say, I'm nervous.

Roswell,

Keep in mind that people who are upset are much, much more likely to post than people who are happy with their purchase.

Search for user reviews on any product - automobile, computer, restaurant, whatever - and you will easily find reviews by upset customers. When's the last time you went to a forum to post about how content you were with a car/computer/dining experience?

Don't worry about it too much. Something like 20% of laptops everywhere develop a problem within the first two years (not cited in this article, but it is a good example taken from a few large companies: http://www.macobserver.com/article/2005/02/08.8.shtml ). That's one out of every five laptops, and honestly, judging from the forums at Alienware and the ones here, given the quantity of laptops they do sell, most of those problems are resolved satisfactorily.

That said, I am personally planning on extending my warranty on this beast for another few years .
