.Net Framework install...

Thread Starter
Just purchased FEAR and was looking forward to playing it. I tried to update to the latest Catalyst drivers for my 4780 Radeon Mobility 9600 (had to reformat hard drive and reinstall windows a month ago so I'm still using the OEM drivers).

Didn't work - check with ATI. OK, need .Net Framework 1.1

OK - download .Net Framwork but it won't install. Checked Microsoft forums and found it is a fairly common issue. Tried a number of solutions suggested, including downloading and using something called Windows Update Cleanup, which managed to temporarily wipe out SpyDoctor.

Bottom line - frustrated because in order to go one step forward (play my friggin $50 game) I've had to take three steps backward and the whole thing now seems to be a mess.

I also Norton Internet Security, Norton Systemworks, ZA Pro, Spydoctor, etc. Not sure if any of these other programs are a problem.

Someone on another forum (OpenTechSupport) suggested doing the whole reformat /reload XP process again. Any thoughts?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the auto install from windows update instead of a manual install? Might be worth a try.

only for the ATI control center

Hi,

you dont need the framework for the driver to work, just for the advanced controls from the control center. Just go into the start menu and run, type msconfig and press ok, select the startup tab and remove the ticks from both entrys for cli.exe and you should not get the annoying message when starting windows.

if that fails try the same things with the drivers from www.omegadrivers.net
