HELP!! from someone who has clean installed a new 9300?

My version of windows on my 9300 has been buggy since the day I got it, and I think I'm gonna reinstall xp pro over it. My concern is that I want EVERYTHING to work the way it does from the factory when I get done. I want the same dell dvd player that opens by just pressing the play buttton on the outside, i want the dell quickset to work, I want it all.....What drivers/software do I need to get to make sure of this before I format?

Not sure you can have a clean install AND all the apps that dell provides without using their ctrl-f11 system restore.

Sure, you can download the drivers, but you don't have the option to download the power dvd and a lot of the other bloatware from their website as far as I know.

I reinstalled my MCE edition provided with the system and installed my own power dvd, etc. Lots cleaner, no bloatware. When I press and hold play, it launches media center. I installed quickset and I think the dell media launcher drivers.

Like tbNB says, you won't be able to get all of that Dell bloat back without doing a sytem restore.

Here's a thread that may be of some relevance to you...

BTW, you can download Dell Media Experience (DMX.EXE) from there:

Just call dell up and ask them send you the disks. It'll be worth it in the long run and it'll take 2 days at the most for it to arrive to you.

okay....well, If I do a clean install with just the drivers, and I have my own dvd software (i have powerdvd 6)....then the only thing that won't function correctly is the dell media thing that pops up when you hold the play button, right? I mean.....you still see the onscreen volume and all that right?

i reformatted my 9300 last night, right after i got on dell chat and asked them to send me the MCE 2005 disk & utilities disk.

of course i already had a copy of MCE 2005 courtesy bittorrent, but i want my liscenced copy that doesnt need a key to install. all the extra software dell peddles are on the app and utilities disk as far as i know, although i dont see myself wanting to install a bunch of trial ware.

All the essentials for normal operation are on the dell driver site. dell media direct is what controls the media buttons BTW

You need to install the dell quickset for that to happen. And Dell Media Experience will launch when you hit the play (media) button if you install DMX.EXE.

Or if you'd like for the play button to launch Winamp, iTunes, WMP or whatever, here's how you do it:

I've got XP Pro installed and was wondering if the Dell Media Experience works on pro or does it require MCE? Also is it really worth it to install? ie.. what does it offer that Winamp, Media Player Classic (or other normal players), dont?

I'm more than happy with how things run now on my system and never thought about installing DME.. Say this post and just figured I'd ask.

Nope, doesnt require MCE, DME is a MCE clone for those who dont want MCE as it lacks certain xp Pro features , but who still want the tv experience MCE does so well.

Its a MCE clone, but i prefer MCE anyday, when i'm just listening to music or watching dvds, being able to sit in my bed and use it like a tv is wonderful, especially when i can have my pc doing whatever in the backgroud

i personally have XP MCE & XP PRO in dual boot

Ohh ok. I'll have to give it a shot as I'm looking to get a USB TV setup soon. I didn't realize it was a MCE clone. Yeah I dual boot also except WinXP / Debian Linux

Thanks for the info!
