So when's Dell gonna start shipping notebooks with Yonah?

Anybody heard any rumors? Will it be Jan 6th? I guess they'll have to have some new models since the motherboards will be different, too. I'm ready for dual core, need RAID 0 in my notebook too, Dell, while you're at it.

I think it may be a few days/weeks after Jan 6th as Dell ramps up production with Yonah-based processors.

march-april easy.

I believe it would have to be much earlier than March-April for Intel to capture a sizable market before AMD's Taylor comes around. Intel cannot afford to lose the mobile market to AMD now.

maybe feb. i doubt jan though. thats just too on-schedule for a company like intel and dell to get them into the lappys.

I'd like to say that due to Dell's close/loyal relationship with intel they will be leading the pack when it comes time for release. This is just my opinion on the subject though. Even if they are one of the first to release it I wouldn't expect to see anything until late jan or early feb.

What's the primary advantage of Yonah? Lower power consumption?
Yes the power consumtion is lower and there is a considerable performance increase. However I would still say that AMD will hold the crown with their Dual Core cpus. The biggest bust for us is that once again Intel has changed the pin design so if you want Yonah you're going to be buying a new laptop along with it. Unless dell decides to offer the a mobo upgrade option for existing owners. But even then I'm sure it won't be cost effective.

Uh...

Certainly not for the mobile sector. A 2.0 GHz Yonah runs on par with a 2.0 GHz Athlon 64 X2, and consumes less power under load than the X2 does at idle. Yonah is gonna be way the hell better than a dual-core Turion, too.

I think the "instant off" discounts on the Dell Lattitude line is a good indication that Yonah is around the corner. I think Yonah will be introduced in some selected Inpiron models, but on ALL the Lattitude lines. Business users want extended battery times and Yonah is supposed to provide this.

I've heard that Dell is going to release The precision M90 and Latitude D820 'soon'.
What happened to the M80 ?

Anyways,I'm not that interested in cpu's,what I've got is fast enough.
Dual core won't speed up anything that I use at the moment, sata, raid 0,10,000 rpm definitely, mind you, more battery life is always a good thing.

As soon as Yonah is officially released, I'm sure that Dell will be the first one with a shipping notebook. I'd guess early January if they can get the CPU's from Intel.
My guess will be end of January or start of February!!!

Since ACER already has a 8200 being displayed in some circles, I'm guess there will be one h*ll of a race to be the first one to ship a Yonah notebook. I think ACER will be first out the door because they have stated that they want to be the largest seller of notebooks in the world. They will bust their butts to be the first out the door in keeping with their stated goals. If not, they will lose sales to Dell and they know it.

Yonah v AMD

The Duo's, or whatever Intel is calling Yonah, is not a very cool running chip. The specs I've seen are 50w under load which approaches the 68w of AMD mobile chips and is higher than the 37-40w Turions.

What Intel has done is reduce the power consumption of the total platform (cpu+wifi+chipset) by 28%!

That is pretty impressive and its something that AMD cannot compete with since they rely on 3rd parties for supporting chips. As much as I griped about how hot Yonah would I did not expect this development. But....the laptop will still have to handle the heat from a 50w processor and a GPU....that will be interesting.

where have you heard that the dual core yonah would eat 50watts under load? i heard it would only be about 40, but cant recal the article now.

What about their price...are they going to be cheap??
You won't find a 6800 or 7800 Go on a Turion, not yet anyway.

Something to consider )
