Modular drive question in 710M

Can I pop out the drive whenever i'm sure i wouldn't be using it?probably save some power?

Modular means it can come out right?I can replace with a cover or something?
Didn't your 710m come with a weightsaver? Mine did. Its a plastic thing that fills the gap.

Yes you can take it out. Its hotswappable (aka. you can take it out while the system is running). Don't know how much power it will save though. If you not using it, I doubt it uses much at all.

Oh really???? Do Dell ship those "weight-savers" in Australia??? It's not available in the US for the 700m... thinking of buying one from Dell if it's available!!!

The "weightsaver"

Removing the DVD+/-RW while the laptops on

The weightsaver installed

The difference in weight really is negligible. Having the optical drive is well worth the tiny extra weight.

Nah i got none of that as far as I checked. Can it be ordered anywhere?
Not sure, if you call spare parts you might be able to get one.
It was & is never available in the US (or shipped with the 700m to US customers). I'm looking for one too... Wish Dell will make it available for sale.

Gee Dell US seem to be really stingy. I got all the OS CDs, software CDs and driver CDs, plus that weightsaver thing and you guys have to request it all.
Yeah. I had to request for the CDs, no weightsaver plus they just sent me an invoice for $22, for 2 of the CDs (Sonic MyDVD & PowerDVD)!!! Now Dell has also (for some time already) changing the "Owners Instruction" booklet into a software copy on our systems too. Do you have a "hard copy" of the Owners Instruction in Down Under???

We get everything over here. ^ Thats what I got in the box.
OMG, I got crap. And by crap, I mean nothing.

Thats really cheap of Dell US.

Oh man. Seems to me that Dell just don't give a s**t to US customers even though it is a US company!!!

Look at the stuff that MitchellO received!!! I mean it is even in sealed plastic bags!!! Over here, there is no sealed bags containing the CDs to "water-proof" it or whatever!!! I ended up spending money to get ZipLoc bags instead!!! How I also wish I can get my hands on a "hard copy" of the 700m Instruction Booklet like what MitchellO has got... I guess I'll be able to get it in my dreams!!!!

Maybe the next time I buy a Dell, I should move to another country (or to Down Under) for a few months and buy my Dell lappy there, then transfer the warranty back to the US so that I'll have everything!!!

By the way, MitchellO, what's the model of your 710m screen???
Yup, all the CDs are sealed in plastic, as is the manuals.

My screen is SEC3157. I believe that is of the Samsung variety?
hey, what is the DPN (dell part number) on the weight saver? if we get that, you can order it.
If this helps, the number written on the weightsaver is CN-0K5778-70166-59L-01DF. Thats the only one other than A00 (the revision).
