OK here is the review of my 4780 laptop that I received after much trouble with UPS last Friday. First off the basics:

4780:
Pentium4 3.0 GHz, HT enabled
1024 megabyte DDR 400 ram
ATI 9600 Pro Turbo w/ 128 Meg ram
17” WGA screen
60 gig 7200 RPM with 8 Meg cache
56k-10/100 NIC
Internal 802.11b wireless card
6-1 card reader
DVD-r, dvd-rw 2x burner with 24X cd burner
NTSC TV tuner with remote and software
Power brick and car adaptor kit
Built in 4 speaker + extra subwoofer
Built in web cam
Free laptop carrying bag

Now stuff I bought for this laptop:
Targus deluxe laptop back pack
Creative Extigy NX2
Sienheiser HD570 headphones
MX 500 Logitech mouse
Lap desk with MOUZE add-on

+ About $700-$800 for shipping, customs and taxes

First (and last ) impressions when I first got this lappy… WOW, I love it… the box it came with was rather large and very heavy…. Lol I expected that from a desktop replacer. Many people say the weight and noise of fans is an issue that made them rethink their purchase… not with me… is it heavy? Yes to some degree, the targus back pack helps A LOT with its padded back side and padded straps and lots of room and therefore makes carrying this lappy rather easy , so although I feel the weight, it doesn’t bother me. Sound does NOT bother me AT ALL; even with they come on FULL force still its nothing that I would get annoyed by. On the pixel issue, I think I have ONE lil pixel stuck its in the absolute LAST row from the left, so on the right hand side of the screen in the first column of pixels I have one, I never noticed it by my normal 3 day use until I wanted to write up this thing and looked at it very carefully and found something that I might not even find next time I look for it, so its perfect.

Speed is amazing with this machine everything is fast and responsive, about the games and issues with widescreen, I found NONE I installed nearly 18 games and all are playing without a hitch.

Closing words before the pics, I couldn’t be any happier with my purchase, its just perfect on every aspect of the equation…. I love u pctorque
Warning pics MAY load very slowly.... its on my friends home server
And now the pics:
Basic case that I will never use, but hey it was free :

my targus backpack, it rules :

The front of the laptop with the screen, quality is **** i know it was only a web cam, movie playing is starship troopers

Back of the laptop:

TV tuner:

Lappy closed:

Fans fans and more fans, 4 are computer fans and the one on the top left hand corner is my subwoofer

My external soundcard, the NX2, it sounds great

Here is a pic of the lappy, my p800 cell phone, the small remote is for my NX2 and the big one is for my laptop is controls volume, channels, turns off and on and tons of other ****

Here is a better quality pic of my lappy, it’s a matrix background

Here is the DVD burner and the 6-1 card reader

I hope u enjoyed reading this review as much as I enjoyed braggi.....errr writing it up

Could you give some more information on your targus backpack? I am a student planning on using an 8790 for notes (everyone thinks im crazy, but they are not addicted to powerful computers ) so i need a good bag that can fit a 17 inch lappy and books. Does this bag fit books and if it does how many?

hmmm it fits the 4780 VERY EASILY with room to spare. looks WAY cool, and i have thick college books and i can fit 2 with the inner back pack where my lappy is stored ( it has 2 inner parts one with laptop and strap and another one is jsut there for books i guess here http://oldenglish.servebeer.com/laptop/laptop11.jpg) if u really wanna push it i guess the outter area can also hold about 2-3 books, not reallllyyyy thick ones but it CAN hold ALOT of crap, all and all its perfect for me, i have a couple of classes a day with 2-3 books for each and beside when u got a lappy who needs books

and that black thing under the laptop and the mouse are my lapdesk v.s 2 and mouzpad add on works great for when i need to use it on my lap, doesn't seem to cool the lappy but wont let it over heat cus of covered fans either

But keep in mind that the 8970(?) is probably going to be thicker than the 4780. See if anyone here has the same backpack and can fit their 88XX in there. If they can, it should be perfect (since the 8970 is the 4780 and 8890+ combined).
