FiReBReTHa ... can you contact this guy and ask him WTF is going on? Why are people only getting the AR5006X model when they should be getting teh XS? I ordered 2 with the understanding that they would be the XS model and not the X. I've just spent over 100 bucks for a new wireless router to support the faster speed of the XS and will not be happy if thats not what I get. I could have bought 2 AR5006X cards for 65.00 shipped, had them already and used my existing router.

Not yelling at you just figured since you set this up it would be easier for you to get an answer .

I sent the following note along with the Paypal payment so I'm in hopes my order is correct.

Yep, I had that statement in my Paypal statement so that he could see that it was the group buy but I received the x model.

+1
Just drop him a note so you guys can move onto the next step to get it corrected.

He has quite a few cards going out and was a mixup, remember gotta keep the eyes on the added "s"

I am not making excuses for him but just saying that it wasn't intentional because I work in retail and this happens a bit.

Flashed the router with an older firmware that had static super-g and the atheros client now says connected at 108Mbs super-g.

Chill out guys he sent us SparkLAN WMIA-166AG cards you can view the specs here;
http://www.sparklan.com/products_min...wmia_166ag.htm

You will notice they have the Atheros AR5006XS (AR5414A) chip. As long as it is the AR5414 we are good.

For some reason the client driver install uses the AR5006X driver but if you point it to the ndis5x like geist said it installs as AR5006XS. Here is where you can get the latest drivers;
http://www.sparklan.com/support.htm

I just manually install the driver using the ndis5x driver then I install the client and when it prompts to use the AR5006X driver just say no and reboot.

When you get the card just make sure it says WMIA-166AG on it and you are good.

Well guys I have had some time to test this card and I must say I am really impressed. The client utility that comes with it is awesome. Intel's is bloated, Broadcom is cheesy, and this one is straight to the point with nice utilities. The thing that I have noticed right off the bat is how quickly I get connected when booting up my computer and repairing the connection. My Dell 1450 took anywhere from 5-10 seconds to connect but this thing is immediate with no wait what so ever. Another thing I was never able to get AES to work with my Dell 1450 and Dlink DI-784. Well not anymore the AR5006XS connected via AES the first try at 108mbs. Very nice product and browsing is noticable faster. Burst speeds are quicker too but bandwidth is bandwidth and it ends up settling at the same speed as before.

Worth every penny for sure.

No I am happy with he purchase since I am returning both 9300's, I am going to see if my 5150 will support the new card..
post #171 of 442
Yep.. Pointing to the new Driver made the difference.
Glad to see it wasn't a bigger issue.

Thanks!

I paid for 2 XS cards as well...SOLELY for the 108Mbps capability, since I am totally satisfied with my Dell MiniPCI card for connectivity. I am on vacation, but my 2 cards shipped on the 23rd, so they should be there when I get home on the 3rd...I will post to let everyone know what type of card I received, and whether or not I can successfully connect at 108Mbps to my D-Link GamersLounge Router...I will be pissed-off if I get the X-card, as that is totally false advertising since his ad SPECIFICALLY said something like, 'This is NOT the 5006X card, it is the NEW 5006XS with all new features' blah blah blah...I simply cannot believe that dude would ship a different model than advertised to people who follow a notebook forum (and who are, therefore, rather tech-savvy), at the risk of having his ebay name toasted...?!?! I am reserving judgment, therefore, until I see the card in my hands....I will keep you posted.
