Is the offer still good? If so I will pick one up. Also is he sending the xs cards?
Yes, he is sending "XS" cards. Read the last few pages and you'll notice that the people that thought they got "X" cards is because they installed the software incorrectly.

I am reserving judgment, therefore, until I see the card in my hands....I will keep you posted.
Dude,

Do you read any posts other than the one that said.. 5006X? It is a driver issue. Nothing more. And for reserving judgment.. You already made a judgment.. Read your post.. You aready to shoot the guy for 'false advertising'. A simple email to him and he made the solution quite clear as was then posted here.

And as for the post that says we installed the software incorrectly, I'd like to take a moment and tell you.. There were no directions or guides as to what to install or to grab a drive from a different directory. The >exe installed teh 5006X by defualt.

All the cards are 5006XS.. Just install the driver from the other dir and you'll be good to go.

Huh? What did he say?
He shipped the card in five days. Pretty damn good going across different postal systems. Anyway . . .
1) I uninstalled the 2915 using device manager.
2) uninstalled the proset software and drivers.
3) Installed the card.
4) Ran the driver installation from the homemade cd.
5) Get excellent signal strength, and even see 1 or 2 networks Ive never seen with the 2915. ( I was a little skeptical about others claims ).
6) My touch pad responds a hell of a lot better now.

However Im not browsing successfully. I even turned off the windows firewall. I upped the transmit power to 100mw, and Im using WEP.
Double checked the hex key in the correct index field. Anybody had this issue?

I think LinkSYS is proprietary and you have to use their wireless cards to get the speed boost.

I have a DLink DI-784 and love it zero problems.

Firewall and Transmit power won't have anything to do with it.

Is DHCP working from your router to your machine? Do you get a valid IP? Are your IE settings correct? Hook your laptop straight in your router via NIC does internet work? If not probably your router. Try hooking straight into your DSL modem does that work? You can try and disable encryption just for testing. You can also check to see if there is a firmware update there maybe some quirk with your router and atheros cards.

Firewall can have an impact, depending on what ur doing and its settings.

DHCP is working. IP is valid and within my restricted range.
I use a cable modem. I dangle a linksys wap (a second generation B wireless) from my primary router.

The atheros wep setup is strange and might be advanced for the router.
I'll give that a whirl. Thanks for the finger point.

Dude,

I made that post several days ago JUST AFTER the first few people had noted the 5006X spec and BEFORE all of the other posts made about how it was just a driver issue...however, somehow my post appeared AFTER that discussion, and I had to immediately leave and do something instead of looking carefully after I posted. I just now have got the chance to come back to the forum and check this thread only to discover that I look like a total assh@le! Sorry I made you so furious, but as someone noted, there was really no reason for most people to buy these things at all except that this is the only MiniPCI chip useable with the 108Mbps spec enabled in many of the best routers...without that feature, the two cards I just paid greater than $100 for would have been no better than the two cards already in my system...I have been ripped off on eBay before very subtly like this (slightly different model & etc.), so I was merely letting people know I would keep an eye out for chicanery and report back to keep posterity informed...I will admit I sounded like a Class 'A' Jackass since my post somehow appeared after the issue was resolved, and for that I apologize (even though I had no control over it).

Anyhow, the cards are really terrific...connected at 108Mbps even without the 'XS' spec...I will redirect the driver install now so it installs the 'XS', but it's really not even necessary to get the Super-G from what I can tell...I think people were confused because a) the driver install does state that it is an 'X' card, and b) as already noted, Windows says it is connected at 108Mbps while the Atheros utility says 54Mbps. Also, it is amazing how many other networks I can 'see' with the Atheros card...only two or three were available for connection with the Dell card while about 15 are now visible with the Atheros chip...how many of those are actually connect-able I have no idea (they range in strength from -1db to 38db). Anyone have a rule-of-thumb for how strong the signal needs to be in order to achieve stable connections?

Big thanks to Firebretha for organizing such a successful and lucrative campaign!

Actually, I think there is a way to enable/disable that feature in the BIOS setup. If you need to turn off the radio, you can right-click on the Atheros icon in yer toolbar and select 'Disable Radio', although you probably knew that already...take a look at the BIOS options next time you boot, anyway.

Thread Starter
I am glad to see everyone enjoying their cards for those who have received them. For the others be patient as we have to deal with the joy of new years and christmas shipping delays because of USPS.

I am glad I got this pulled off and am really pleased with it. I am going to post in other forums to try to help others.

If you guys want you can always throw me some rep points!

2 Problems there......

1. Dont have the atheros icon (didnt install thier software.. only drivers)
and
2. yea.. Been in the BIOS.. That is just for controling the FN + F2.. Hence it wont work at all..

After a few days with this.. i must say i'm not that impressed..

Windows support is bad, Windows seems to "HANG" on to AP's
EG, In the Windows "Choose a wireless network" window, it will display wireless networks from my work still, as well as have the ones from home.

Also in Net Stumbler it has the same problem where it will see a network and does not seem to "Let It Go" (Says the network in range)

My Intel 2915 had this same problems (Hence I got this atheros one)

My Senao 200mw 2511 does not have this problem
Same with my Dell True Mobile 1450 and my Roamabout is fine...

I beleve this has something to do with the NDIS.
I've formatted and this problem is still around.

Recommend for people that want to use Wireless at a fast and good connection
NOT recommened for war drivers and WEP cracking.

Any one know of a Linux LIVE CD with Madwifi driver support biult in?

Cheers
