Firewall can have an impact, depending on what ur doing and its settings.

DHCP is working. IP is valid and within my restricted range.
I use a cable modem. I dangle a linksys wap (a second generation B wireless) from my primary router.

The atheros wep setup is strange and might be advanced for the router.
I'll give that a whirl. Thanks for the finger point.

Well there mr. 5 posts, I am not selling them nor do I know the guy.
But what I do know is that everyone here sure as hell appreciates the work I put into it.

This thread is about saving money. Take this one down and you might as well take down the coupon threads too.

I got both of mine a few days ago and have 1 installed in my 9300. I removed the intel drivers, software, shutdown, replaced the wifi card, rebooted and installed the new drivers without running the CD.. ie Windows hardware and selected the correct directory on the CD. Ran perfect on my old router at 54Mbps.

However I then went out and got the new d-link gamers router and n setting that up chose WPA2. Since the windows client doesn't support this I removed the XS driver, ran the CD and selected to install both the driver and software client (which I like a lot). Doing so installed the wrong driver of course. So I removed the X driver and reinstalled the XS driver. Now of course it says "Atheros AR5006XS Wireless Network Adapter #2" and the system has crashed a number of times while transfering data from 1 system to another on the LAN.

Anyone else run into this or any other problems?

best idea is to go thru all the work of uninstalling the client. and removing any atheros hardware thats in your hardware profile, restart
then reinstall client and driver.
Then after install go back into hardware profiles, click update driver on the atheros card and then select the XS driver.

Yeah I have to agree here. I haven't seen where this card really saves any power. I liked reading the following and wondered where they get the percentage:

my guess its like any manufacturer.

The New Corvette gets you 120% gas savings.

(over a model T)

its all about Marketing. But I still believe that it does save some in comparison just for the fact that single chips are designed to be more efficent over others.

Yeah I agree its mostly marketing. I'm plugged in 95% of the time so its not a huge factor for me anyways.

How do you boost the power to 100MW ?
Its been talked about here a number of times. I think the overall outcome was that the 9300 mainboard simply will not provide 100MW to the card regardless of what you set it at. I noticed that when I was using the Atheros Client Utility it was set to use 100 but didn't. Only around 35. Doesn't really matter to me since I've now got 2 additional OPEN wifi routers listed and I'm FINALLY getting a stable connection at 108Mbps for a change to my own router.

Hey I just got this new 5006XS card... its ok... no drops, good speed.. although i am having real trouble finding up to date drivers for this card. if anyone knows where i can download the new drivers(links in this thread are dead to sparklan.com), post! I am hoping they will make me feel better about my purchase...
Just install the drivers on the CD in the D:\Ndis5x directory. Also download WindowsXP-KB893357-v2-x86-ENU.exe from Microsoft's website which is a hotfix to add WPA2 to the Windows wifi client.

I installed the Atheros client 3 times and it kept crashing my system. Once removed and the MS patch was installed everything has been Bang-On stable!

Can you explain what WPA2 is? I am not that familiar with it.
