How difficult is it to change these cards, I have never opened a notebook! Scared I might ruin something.
If you can unscrew 2 screws then you can change this card. Follow the instructions on the first page. The only "frightening" thing is when you go to remove the antennae from the card you will be afraid you're going to break it. But they do just pop off with a little pressure. Don't pull on the wires to remove them, use a SMALL flat head or you might even be able to grab them with your fingernails and remove them.

Mine had no access panel so it was about 30 screws but it's in there...and like dsorrent said about the antenna connectors, use a small screw driver to remove and gently align them back on the new card and press them on.

Also read one of the other post by dsorrent about installing the drivers from the provided CD.

when does this group buy end??!?

My laptop didn't come with an antenna so I just bought this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1) antenna for my 5006XS and my signal is still horrible. I'm using a Belkin G router and I can't even go 20 yards away from my router. It seems to be find if I leave the antenna hanging out of my laptop but once I run it underneath my keyboard the signal sucks again. What should I do? Should I get a new antenna or what?

Call Dell and explain that you never received the antenna and would like one shipped out as it was supposed to be included. Install that and see if it works any better. Again.. it should have come with the laptop and shouldn't cost you anything.

Whe did you order? Have you read through this thread as this question has been answered a few times. Depends on where you live however if in the states it should take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive. If in Canada it could take up to 3 weeks. I'm in Jersey and received mine about a 9 or 10 days later during the new year.

I don't have a dell, I have a Compaq. It never shipped with a mini PCI card so I dont think it was supposed to come with an antenna.

ARG!, waited 2 weeks for the card, went to pick it up at the post office today and the envelope was empty except for the cd no wi-fi card, the envelope was taped and stapled , talk about dissapointed ;-( I'm glad the seller sent it registered, the post office says he needs to file on his end to get this cleared up, I'm sure he will take care of it asap.

I had my first BSOD today while tranferring a large zip file. I am using my 5006XS with a D-Link Gamefule DGL-4300. I was doing some troubleshooting and noticed something funny under XP Device Manager. If you enable "show hidden devices", you will see the device driver for AR5006XS. But, the packet scheduler Miniport for the same adapter is listed as a AR5006X. Anyone have any idea if there is a AR5006XS Packet Scheduler Miniport? I wonder if this is causing some driver issues?

Well, the card is fast, but i am overall unhappy with the signal strength i am receiving....I took my laptop over to a friends house where i have had a wireless connection before, i booted up and looked at the available networks and now there are only 3 available where on my old card there were 5. Also i am only getting 1 bar where on the Intel 2200 card i got 4! I thought this card was supposed to get the best signal out of any wireless card?

That is strange.

Almost in every single case, I have more to choose from now and existing ones are far stronger signals with my setup.

Could it simply be that some people have turned off their wireless routers? I know a lot of people who have their wireless routers on a desk and when they aren't online they turn them off. I never really got it but people do turn them off.
Also as for the signal strength.. your the first person I've heard of saying it was weaker. Have you been able to go back over to your friends place and test it again? A lot of things can play into this and it could have been a one time thing.
